Default Confused about frame jack lift points - 2017 RGU

I'm slightly confused on the proper locations to life my bike (2017 RGU) using a J&S frame jack.

I've got experience using the J&S jack on my Softail, but the larger touring bike is a bite different.

The service manual says to "ensure jack contacts both lower frame tubes where down tubes and lower frame tubes converge."

In order to clear the water pump cover, I'd need to position the jack about 2 inches to the rear of the point where the down tube meets the lower frame tube. This puts the rear lift point at a joint between the lower frame tube and rear down tube, but over a cross-member. There doesn't seem to be any way to lift per the service manual instructions.

Am I being dense or can anyone shed some light on where exactly you life an M8 using a frame jack?

Thanks!

I roll my J&S under my 2017 RGS so the left side of the jack is even with the trailing edge of the cross member.

Have you had any issues with your M8 lifting it this way? It looks like I'll get some deformation of the rubber on the jack but I could always shim it, if that's a concern.

I think you're over thinking it. Place the jack in from the right side. I place rear pads of my lift on my dresser to almost the back of the frame supports under the tranny. Seems to balance perfect there.

The Service manual can be a little "off" in places and can be confusing. I put my jack under the bike coming in from the right side of bike leaving the bags and windshield on. It took me a few times because I was trying to find the best balance point for my bike. After I jacked her up I always lock the jack and put tie downs on the bike and to the jack front and back, very important!! Don't ask me how I know.

I put my J&S Jack in so the rear arm of the jack is directly under the frame gusset below the transmission side cover. You can adjust front or rear to your liking. I have NEVER used tie downs on my J&S and have mounted the bike with it all the way up in the air. It ain't goin' anywhere. On the M8 the front arm of the jack will contact the bottom of the engine cases but not enough where the rubber won't take care of it. BEST.JACK.EVER.

The rear support for my J&S contacts just before or after where the frame tube gets larger. Anywhere in that area is fine IMO.

My cheap *** jack needs the tie downs. I heard good things about the J&S Jack.
