Thanks SRose01. That is exactly the review I was looking for. I made the mistake of buying brand new Sena 20s EVO dual headsets to hook up to my HD 2017 Road Glide Ultra with my newly installed WHIM kit. It performed OK but exactly as you described. I'm convinced you are correct and will return them and go purchase the HD Boom Sena 20s EVO and expect the same performance upgrade you have described. My HD dealer does not have the 20s EVO's in stock until late September. Thanks for taking the time for a very helpful review.

Hmmm... Harley only lists the Boom 20S which has the antenna, not the 20S EVO, so is your dealer saying they will be getting a Boom 20S EVO, or just the standard Boom 20S?

Researching the two different models besides antenna design there doesnât appear to be any difference in performance or capability. The only difference appears to be on the EVO you donât have to flip the antenna up to get extended range.

The biggest difference appears to be the $30 extra you have to pay for the EVO version. I see that Surdyke HD is listing the Boom 20S as the "EVO" even though the part number and picture are that of the "non EVO" model (76000736A).
Since the Sena version has reportedly poor audio when used with the Boom system, when I finally get my backordered "additional required" cable I plan to order the HD WHIM box and the Boom 20S.
Look on pg. 803 of the 2018 HD catalog and you will see the offer of a single or dual headset pack for Boom 20S EVO's. I'm convinced the HD 20S EVO offers the better and more complete performance as described earlier in this thread by SRose01. Product due at my dealer on Sept 22. By the way there is an advertised upgraded capability from 20S to 20S EVO besides the physical
design of the antenna. Better antenna performance supposedly.

If you watch the video HD had on it they show the Sena 20s so it must work with that... Basically this is what it should have came with from the start... And at least be standard equipment from here on out. I hope it fixes the problem guys had with their Sena stuff with the echo or side tone issues when trying to use the freewire. I think this is HD version of the freewire... But I still think it should be part of it already. Keeping fill functionality wired the past few years but claiming to be Bluetooth was a half truth. Now it's complete... If you drop 300 on this thing... Probably more for some because not everything plug and play is as easy as it seems so they'll need a dealer install at ridiculous rates.
I have recently Purchased the WHIM for MY 2017 Ultra Ltd and I also purchased the Harley/Sena 20s Evo headsets. The sound quality is excellent, full stereo and fully functional with the Boom box through Voice commands. FYI, the only the Harley brand of the Sea 20s will operate in stereo on the Boom Box. Non-Harely branded Sena units will work but again, not in stereo. I have had the Cardo headsets but the music sound quality with the Sena is superior and the intercom voice is also superior with virtually no wind noise and HD sound quality. I am definitely not happy to have had to purchase a separate WHIM and harness since I think this should have come with the bike. But if anyone is wondering, it works pretty well. All functions of the voice commands and hand controls work with the system. So although I have only had this thing for a few days now, so far I am very happy with it and it appears to be functioning as advertised. I will keep you all informed as I continue to experiment with it.

I should know better than to expect H-D to be up-to-date on their web store - they still show the older model there.

Without an actual real world test (side by side comparison) it's impossible to know if the "improvements" are real or marketing.
Looks to be well integrated, backwards compatible to '14 models & requires dealer flash to activate. I guess the existing BT module was too slow to support HSP profile? Pretty elaborate upgrade but it looks to support 2 HSP profiles at the same time.
Do I Need the WHIM Harness for the 2018 Road Glide Special too.

Great thread, great posts! Thanks to all who are sharing their experiences.
So, if I've got this all figured out:
1. The WHIM will pair with a "standard" SENA 20S EVO headset, but it will be mono music and lower quality audio.
2. If you buy the Harley-Davidson SENA 20S EVO headset, then you get stereo music and high quality audio.
For those of you who have tried both, do I have this right?
