So many guys chasing after the twin-cam sound from a Milwaukee 8 engine.
Sorry guys that iconic sound went with your old Harley
We all have to get used to a new reality. The 4 valve heads and larger pipes equates to a 50% increase in airflow. This requires the designers to shut the exhaust valves earlier. The standard twin cam procedure of attacking the cat and ripping everything out of the muffler exacerbates the flow problem causing combustion in the headers, increased heat, reduction in power and increased consumption.
The sound is just a reverberating noise which will permanently damage your ears, faster than you are damaging the engine.
There seems to be only two reasonable options to obtain a pleasant and enhanced deep Milwaukee sound.
1. Remove only the perforated baffle pipes, with the crimped end, from the center of the muffler.
2. Bite the bullet and fit 4.5" Screaming Eagle, Street Cannons.
I do miss the sound that I had on my 96 with V&H Hi-output. Its was such a deep sound. I wish I could get the 107 to sound the same, at least at Idle. Even with the V&H oversized 450 its not very loud or deep at idle.
Ohh my, I dont want that twin cam sound. I did own 2 Evo's though, wouldnt mind hearing that sound again. Im still trying to figure out what the M8 sounds like...... like an M8 I guess.
First week I had it I removed/unplugged the module in the trunk. Then opened the exhaust valves.. mucho better. The S55 engine unfortunately sucks as far as sound goes.
I'm not a big fan of the M8 sound even with Rinehart slimline duals, 4" slipons and pv tune I had installed.. but much better than a fake sounding evo to make the M8 "sound like a real harley"
oh man that would be sad and hilarious.. Harleys with fake tuned sounds blasting through speakers
Around me are numerous Harley's that either sound like they're worked on and loud on the throttle, or stock with gutted exhausts. Loud as **** doesn't sound healthy to me, just annoying. Mine is loud enough with the Jackpot slip ons. When my warranty is up and I get it cammed ant dyno tuned I expect a different sound. But I don't think the louder the better. It's a totally different engine and will never sound like the twin cam. Hell, I have to keep reminding myself that it's a touring bike!
