New M8 with 674 miles. Checked the oil level cold and it was exactly at the #2 mark cold on jiffy stand where manual says it should be. Ran it hot and checked again and it shows down at least one quart under the arrow mark on the jiffy stand, any suggestions on which way to check it? Never had this problem on either of my 103’s.
New bikes will burn some oil until broken in. How much depends on a lot of things.
Oil, when heated, will expand not contract. Either you are burning excessive oil or are checking it incorrectly. After a ride that gets engine to operating temperature wait a few minutes to allow the oil to drain back into the sump before checking it. I usually wait 5 minutes before checking.
Check oil when cold then go for a ride. Wait until engine is cold again, maybe overnight, and check it again. compare results.

It shouldn't be this way but some bikes aren't scavenging the crankcase as they should. If you want to best ensure everything is scavenged when checking the level let it idle for a minute or so prior to shut down.

Thats exactly what I did, that is how I came up with the hot reading that I reported.

always has to be one, thanks for nothing!
The two marks on your dip stick is an oil range. you want the oil to be between the two marks. never below the low mark and NEVER above the high mark. I never fill the oil to the top mark. I go about 3/4 of the ways up on the dipstick between the two marks. if you are between the two marks, you are fine and I would not add oil to get it to the top mark.
Now that it’s showing full When hot on jiffy stand, it’s over full to the very top mark of full vehicle upright cold on jiffy stand. Called the dealer, they want me to bring it in.
