I actually buy and fill 4.5 lt which is 4.8 pts. Figure if you have the oil cooler & plumbing must suck up .3 when it is running anyway?

Thank you for the replies everyone. l. My owners manual that came with the bike says start with 4.0qts. The 2017 owners service manual that I just got says 4qts also. My last bike a 2010 SG said 4qts and went right to the mark with 4qts. I only check my oil hot and have done 500 miles since adding the 0.5qt. No overflow or excess fluid anywhere. I just wanted to see what you all have experienced since I know that each engine can have its own personality. Thank you again for the wealth of knowledge.

The 2-3 dot difference between hot and cold is from my experience with my previous bike and this one seems the same.
this is the first oil change I’ve done myself also. I had the dealer do 1K and 5K service. I want to do 3K fluid changes so I did this one myself.

Glad to hear everything is staying in and yes you are correct, these motors seem to have all kind of different personalities. I know anything much over 4 qts in mine and it will frost my rear pipe and right saddlebag like a cupcake, drives me nuts but I roll with it. Ride safe!
