I would try something like electronics contact cleaner, like Caig Labs Deoxit D5 (if you can even get it anymore).

Good question on the switch bypass. I think its fed to the ECM, so I have no idea. Want to be the first?

Default 3rd switch

on my 17 RGU, it's in shop for 3rd clutch switch in 6 months. shop called Harley, story is they are replacing clutch lever also this time. and yes, that switch is somehow connected to canbus and will drive u nuts at lights and is borderline dangerous. I wouldn't short it.....this ain't your father's Harley.

Not really. That's why I was asking, in case someone else had already tried it, and it threw up errors or caused the bike to not start because of it. I'd like to avoid having that kind of trouble, as this bike is my daily rider to and from work, and without it, I can't work, so it's pretty much a necessity to have it running perfectly right now. This is also part of the reason I haven't taken on some bigger mods, like changing the handlebars to drag bars instead of the mini-apes that are on it now, or installing the stereo I bought. I just can't take the chance that I won't be able to get it all back together and working perfectly before I have to go to work.

That switch is not individually replaceable - it is part of the whole switch unit which is over $200. So once out of warranty this is going to get ugly.

Maybe they'll be available from the Mexico supplier for $20 soon!

I've seen that single switch for sale on eBay, quite often, for anywhere from $8-15, for various years and models. It LOOKS like it's a singularly replaceable part, though it may be mounted in the switch housing WITH the other switches, to make it seem as though you have to replace the whole thing, so the MoCo can get more for replacing it all ($285 at my local "stealer", including the half hour labor to install it). Seems to me, that if it's so easy the techs can do it all in less than half an hour, it probably shouldn't be that difficult to replace just that switch.
