There was an article, I believe in Motor Trend, back when OBD II was implemented that talked about how far overreaching of a technology it was because it was completely capable of recording/reporting all your driving habits. That info could then be used to tax you by the mile, instantly ticket you for infractions, and shut you down should you become unruly. It's twenty years later and we are still slowly creeping toward this reality. An easy way to get people to accept this is to change the fuel. Tranny is a process it takes time.
I believe we will all eventually find the power of electrics will provide us with the adrenaline rush we need. We will have to get over or deal with the lack of noise issue.
To watch a given vehicle with electric power absolutely decimate the same vehicle with a huge, high performance engine is, well, impressive to say the least.

150 years ago kerosene was replacing whale oil for lamps. Not long after that natural gas was the go to for lighting. Soon electricity was front and center. I am sure with each change there were those that resisted it. Horse and carriage was replaced by automobiles. Now we're to a point that battery technology and solar generation of electricity is going to make electric automobiles common. I don't think gasoline powered cars will go away in the next ten years, but I do think you will see a much larger percentage of new vehicles bought being powered by electricity.
Tesla's over the road tractor has a range of 500 miles loaded to 80,000 lbs. and can climb a 5% grade at 60 mph with that load. Current diesel models can only maintain 40 mph on a 5% grade.
I am sure there will be new ways to be taxed, probably on the mileage you drive per year, maybe when you tag your vehicle. It's going to change and probably much faster than any of us imagine.
So you plug in & it takes 30 min, how many cars can fuel with gas in that 30 min? There are studies that say that with the # of cars in Cali it would not be possible to charge that many cars, you would need more charging stations than the power grid could support & yet they're trying to pass laws that would eliminate gas powered vehicles. Tesla would already be bankrupt if it weren't for the subsidies he's receiving & even with that he still hasn't made a profit.

Tesla is gushing money for a car few want and even fewer can afford. The only Teslas I've seen were on flat bed trucks being hauled somewhere. There's a Tesla dealer less than 5 mi from my home. I drive by 2 or 3 times a week. There is nothing going on the re. The current power grid can barely maintain electricity during a heat wave or extreme cold.Anyone thinking big oil is gonna roll over and die should think twice.
I have a electric Green works mower and weed eater. They have great reviews and I must
admit if you have a small yard it does a awesome job. Nice not having to fill up the mower and premix gas for the weed eater.
and not only that, driver less cars are here already..if they make bikes that do that, well....fill in the blank___________
What it will do is make it safer to ride a motorcycle, I not talking about the motorcycle being autonomous, I'm talking about the other cars sharing the road with us. The sensors on the autonomous cars won't be texting or applying makeup while running us over.

One can only hope...
... of course, up until they become truly autonomous and Skynet takes over.
