another battery question is, do we have access to resources to accommodate bringing over 300 electric vehicles on-line in the next 25 years for both initial requirements and sustainment, and how long can those resources be sustained?
Tesla is building recharge stations across the country right now. They are like a gas station, only you plug in your car there for a fast charge. They are building them as fast as they can all across North America. Other manufacturers have the chargers available so you can install them at home and charge your cars overnight.
So, the answer to your question is who knows for sure.
If manufacturers want to sell you a car then it is up to them to figure out how to have convenient method of recharging the batteries.
We don't know what we don't know.

ok, granted, a little OT..but I was thinking about dumping my Vanguard small / mid cap 401 K index fund in favor of adding it to large cap which has been slightly outperforming the rest..then noticed Tesla as one of the top companies it's investing in so stayed put..point being this is the direction we're headed and it's bound to be successful and make some gains into the future, tech, energy, etc...all those large cap blue bloods started out small so happy with a good mix
So you plug in & it takes 30 min, how many cars can fuel with gas in that 30 min? There are studies that say that with the # of cars in Cali it would not be possible to charge that many cars, you would need more charging stations than the power grid could support & yet they're trying to pass laws that would eliminate gas powered vehicles. Tesla would already be bankrupt if it weren't for the subsidies he's receiving & even with that he still hasn't made a profit.

Technology will eventually improve to solve these problems. Faster than you may think.
A Tesla can go 300 miles on a $7 charge of electricity. That's two and a third cents a mile. So yeah, you'll pay them, just not as much. Not only that, Tesla has a million mile power train warranty. Not much there to wear out. It is one reason GM and Ford have avoided going electric as long as they have, no maintenance money coming in.
I live in the great windmill mid west, that was a great idea! They sell the generated energy to other states and charge a nice little fee.And now the farmers are crying they aren't getting the yearly payment as agreed.Sure is nice to have those in your back yard.It truly
never ends.
the 2nd graders will tell you that it comes out of the wall socket. duh.
2/3 of adults between 18-35 will say the same thing. They have no idea. They can't tell you how a locomotive operates, what fuels a jet engine, what creates electricity for power plants all across the United States, etc.
They also can't tell you what energy or resources are required for "clean" battery operated cars, what waste is involved, how are we going to get tomatoes from El Centro to Toledo, and on, and on, and on. All they know is that electricity is the solution when in fact it is most likely going to be worse than the current consumption of coal and oil. We couldn't wait to get rid of glass bottles and paper bags in the grocery stores, now the environmentalists bitch and complain about all the plastic.

Hey, aren't these brain-dead automatons the "Future of the Free World"?
God help us all!!
One positive note, though, is that they'll line up to buy Harleys like sheep at the door to the killing room - at least the MoCo hopes that will be the case.
