Does your shortcut work. I sure could use a fish for 2017. Post a screen print here. Thanks.

Thanks and the answer to my question, the M8 does have two gear-driven balance cams. The Tour model only one. Least sure is what the fish list as required parts. Sure would be nice to see exactly how the two are located and driven. On the Softail motor, one must be located fwd as my picture above and the other rearward behind rear cylinder in front of the transmission.

I am an engineer. I had seen numerous pictures of only one. There have been numerous post on M8 balance cam. This is the first that has gone beyond thought. I stated above it needs two to balance correctly. However, all YouTube even by Harley only shows one. The fish shows two but my Ronnie's fish only goes to 2017. Took Stonecold to go past think to come up with dodgecity fish.

What I don't understand is why Harley did not use two in both motors and make them all right. Guess they saved some big bucks since they could get away with it on the rubber mounted engine, transmission, rear swing arm mess on the Tour. If all the rubber mounts are not right, some serious handling issues can occur. On a Softail, the rear wheel swing arm is controlled by metal spherical bearings..not rubber. Usual last the life of the bike.

Well it sure would reduce the amount of total rotating mass, but you would be going back to the twin cam 'A' motor. I'm sure it would contribute to the shake of the motor and chassis taking away the benefits of the balancer system. Japanese bikes have used counter balancers for years.

Trigeezer, the problem with your post is that is the tour with one. Find a Softail with two. Funny about what they would not say two balance cams but it is now on the fish. The writer of the article you posted said he accepted they could balance it from 75% to 100%. Seeing only one cam, what he assumed was wrong with out another cam in there for that slight lag due to both rods on a single pin.
Did the M8 come out only in the Tour in 2017 and the Softail in 2018?

Yes that is correct

No way is 100% balance possible, probable quote is nearer too 100%

In the softail section on here, despite the 2 balancers quite a few threads by guys with uncomfortable vibes while other claim real smooth !

Not seen any complaints on the touring in that regard
