Trigeezer, the problem with your post is that is the tour with one. Find a Softail with two. Funny about what they would not say two balance cams but it is now on the fish. The writer of the article you posted said he accepted they could balance it from 75% to 100%. Seeing only one cam, what he assumed was wrong with out another cam in there for that slight lag due to both rods on a single pin.
Did the M8 come out only in the Tour in 2017 and the Softail in 2018?[/QUOTE
Yes that is correct
No way is 100% balance possible, probable quote is nearer too 100%
In the softail section on here, despite the 2 balancers quite a few threads by guys with uncomfortable vibes while other claim real smooth !
Not seen any complaints on the touring in that regard
IKR mines smooth as a babies but but it does sorta growl a little on the gas under load .
A fully balanced HD... What's next, reverse and back up cameras?
HD owners today are in full retard mode. Go buy a fricking BMW or whatever makes you wanna ride "smooth". The nastier the better for me anyone I know and ride with.
if HD wanted to go full Japanese inline then they would. In fact, they make a bike for people who want that, The Street. Their selling like hotcakes at a BBQ joint.

interesting, I've never once considered anything but an HD street bike, but why on earth would anyone want a vibrating like hell motor? it's really nice getting off my new bike after a few hours n the saddle and my *** not vibrating for an hour like my old bike did. I hated that
This post is about the engineering technology of the motor. Not who likes what or is interested. Your post like 32 are only trying to improve your post count. So why fuss?

interesting info for sure + that link was with the best pics i had seen on the M-8. to each his own but excessive vibes do nothing good IMO. my old 70 bonneville would crack the fenders + later Buell's with the modified sportster lump were noted for parts falling off if not tightened after every ride. a former ducati dealer friend showed me how a quarter could stand up on the engine cases while idling, + thats a quite old bevel drive + yes i know the 90* design smooths things out. on a later note another rider friends newer Victory is solid mounted + quite smooth with big power. no manufacturer wants to spend $$$ if not needed + although older bikes sold well the revision was as noted necessary + once all the bugs are out it will be the best engine HD ever built IMO
"For the first time in a rubber-mounted Big Twin, a single counter-rotating internal balancer is used to cancel 75 percent of the engines primary shaking force. When an engine with complete vibration cancellation was tested, riders rejected it; some vibration is an essential element of Harleys unique feel. Riders of long ago accepted lots of raw vibration, but most riders today do notand Harley-David*son here appears to be satisfying the faithful customer with some of the shake they love while also smoothing the engine to the degree that will attract new customers with an increased level of refinement. Heavy vibration is tiring, so long-distance riders want engine smoothnessbut still want the drama of handlebars shaking at idleand the relationship with the moving parts."
This is CRAP. What Harley owner wants a super quiet and completely balanced motor? At the bare minimum, HD should offer the option of either a real HD motor or the "metric" version that runs like a sewing machine. I just bought my first bike (20 SG) with an M8 and I'm completely disappointed with how it feels and sounds. As nice as it handles, it feels and sounds like the Walmart version of an HD bike to the point were I can easily justify the $2k money dump on a cam and exhaust change. How ridiculous is that?.

welcome and congrats on your first post and your Crap M8 that Blows, as well as responding to a 4 1/2 year old thread!!! you might be able to get your cam and exhaust at Walmart for less than $2000 although with current inflation, maybe not

Welcome to the forums and nice user name. I look forward to the quality post I'm sure you're to make in the coming days.
Soooooo..... you laid down $20,000 grand or so on a bike without riding it to see if it was for you? Then you come here, and your 1st post, is a complaint about your own stupidity, for not doing the previous? Then, you actually think that Harley should build another M8 engine, on top of two they already offer? OK then... good luck
