I did a search and read through several threads about the RPM's dropping out or event stalling when slowing down and pulling the clutch. I've noticed mine starting to do that on the past few rides. Everything else seemed normal and outside temps are in the 40's so it's not getting hot enough to switch to one cylinder.
The other threads mentioned a flash upgrade to the ECM but some mentioned a problem with the clutch safety switch. I don't know the exact build date but I bought it in April of 17 so it's a fairly early build.
Someone posted the service bulletin regarding what seems to be the issue as well.
I'm taking it to the dealer tonight so we'll see what they say.
did the idle download, that ain't it. it's the clutch safety switch, and there is a recent bulletin on it. if dealer blows smoke, mention safety in traffic. the way mine loped and reached, it was scary to fan clutch in traffic. last week, I had to wait for 3 days for Harley Corporate to send the revised switch and lever. working fine so far...........good luck.
If its not the clutch switch there is a ECM flash that raises the RPM some. A friend had the issue with his 17 CVO SG, and the flash fixed it. I have not had the issue with the 17 CVO SG I traded or this 18 CVO RG.
I know several who have had to have the ECM flashed.
Couple things I noticed after I posted this: At cold start up, the RPMs were around 1000 and stayed there. The stalling had been happening when the engine was at full operating temp, but when I left work last night, it did the same thing with a colder engine. It happened twice when slowing down to stop at a light. When I got to the dealer, I had it idling in neutral and the RPMs were up near 1000, but then would start to bounce and you could hear the engine rev, and slow, rev and slow.
I'd bet it's the clutch switch. Have you tried starting the bike in gear when the stall occurs? If it doesn't start, that would be a pretty good indicator.
I had this problem on my bike when I was modifying clutch levers... My modified lever did not initially let the switch function as it should and I then had the stalling issue like yours. All is well now. I never had to replace the switch as my issue was caused by the lever/switch interface which I have corrected.
