My 2016 FLHTCU used oil exactly the same way as what I described for my current 2018.
I think it it would be odd for a big air cooled (with a little liquid help around the exhaust valves) motor like this to use zero oil in 5k miles. Especially riding in triple digit heat at highway speeds.
Maybe theres an odd duck out there, but according to what we read here in these forums it is much more likely these motors will use around a quart every 5k. Some more, some less, but most ALL use some.
When people say they can go 5K miles and use no oil I'm seriously impressed. I have never owned anything that wouldn't use a drop in 5K. And I've owned a lot of vehicles in my 50 years of driving. I have always broken in my Harleys a bit on the aggressive side. And all of them have used a little oil.

World of difference between "...uses no oil..." and "...don't need to add any oil..." between oil changes.
I have been reading a lot about the issues that HD is having with these new M8 motors. I guess that I actually have 2 questions:
1. Is it happening to stock motors as well as ones that have had work done to them IE. stage 2 and beyond?
2. Is the 18's any better, worse, or the same as the 17's
Thanks for any help or info that you can give.
Your ****ed. Buy a Rushmore Twin Cam you will be happier. **** those M8 guys.

I only had one vehicle that would drink oil, and that was a brand-new '89 Mustang 5.0L. A quart every 500 miles. Turns out they had some engines with weak oil control rings, and mine was one of them. Even my old Jeep Cherokee with 250K miles uses no oil. same with my '16 Subaru @ 6K oil changes. I guess I'm just charmed.

My old ladies Cherokee @186K is the opposite, I just change the filter regular it drinks so much oil and it's just her around town beater.
