A buddy of mine has a 2005 custom. He wants to change his transmission fluid. He thinks he should go to the Harley Dealer to get the fluid. Is this true or can you get it at a regular auto parts store? Does anyone know what kind of tranny fluid to use in a HD?
Just get some decent motorcycle oil, this question should not be asked at all. You see your owners manual and do it or you go to stealership and get it done for $$$.
I'm using Amsoil Amsoil 20W-50 for both the engine and tranny.
We went to the dealer the other weekend and priced a DIY manual and it was around 60 bucks, going to check on ebay I am sure we can find one a little cheaper than that. Neither one of us want to take anything to the stealership, rather do it ourselves.

For that price it sounds like that was the shop manual. You'll only need the owners manual it gives the specs for all the fluids and filters and explains how to do it. Very easy.
My used bike did not come with a manual either but the first thing I bought was an owners manual, got it on Ebay for $20 but the dealership has them for about that price too. I highly recommend you get that for you bike.
