ford is not an oil company....is their oil junk? do they warranty your new car without hassles if you use ford oil?????????
If you want your Ford running far beyond warranty stay away from Ford oil. If you want your Ford to run just a few years because you are getting a new one anyway use some cheap oil. Any oil out there will do. The cheapest oil will run your Ford up to 150k miles no problem.
These company oils are not bad, they are still oils. Just there are so much better oils offering more bang per buck.

That's the latest trend. For example, if you put anything other than "Nissan" oil in, I know atleast their V6. A manager promptly walks up to you says, buy our $90 oil change or sign this piece of paper that basically says. Sir, you just voided your factory warranty on your engine. My cousin is a wrench at Nissan. I think the Maxima V6 will run you something like 16 grand if u don't use their oil and it blows. And, yes, they'll shell out the cash to have it "tested " when your motor goes while under warranty.

Motorcraft oil is good cheap oil. Ive got 4 vehicles pushing 750K miles combined that have been run on it exclusively.

Ill call BS on that one. That is precisely why there is the moss magnuson act. Unless its like VW did awhile back, they specked an oil that only VW sold. You can use any oil you want as long as it meets the OEM specs.
Wow. The guy asks about oil and he gets buy a manual. Wow.
K. The guy who suggested rotella isn't wrong. I use it in my primary and use the 15w-40 in both my jap bikes with a shared sump. It resists shear and has the JASO stamp which is wet clutch safe. You will be fine using it.
Or you can spend more money and use either amsoil v-twin or mobil 1 v-twin oil. They are made for use in your tranny/primary/motor.
Rotella will work fine too. Don't believe all the v-twin oil hype. Frequent oil changes is far more important than the brand you are using.
The guys in the yamaha forum are using rotella and for many hundreds of thousands of miles and their bikes aren't blowing up.
its illegal for a car company to void warenty as long as you are using oil that is up to their standards and within their service intravels.
GM just released a new standard DEXOS. Royal purple exceeds DEXOS, but i have heard they are not actually DEXOS approved.. they do have the DEXOS label on their new bottles though, so i suspect they are certified.
Castroil Syntec was re-branded Castrol Edge DEXOS Certified soley because of GM.
GM has their own brand DEXOS 1 and 2 oils, but it dowsnt mean you have to use it...but they would rather the $ in their pocket...oil companies pay royalties to GM to have their DEXOS stamp on their oil bottles.
in fact, most dealers sell the GM Dexos oil , but also sell another oil option that is either cheaper and Dexos approved or better and Dexos approved.
also, they can not say that you have to use that oil if your car was made before the new standard was released
HD makes Trans Formula Plus specifically for the trans and clutch on thier bikes.
It is not expensive. I use it and it works good. Dont see any good reason not to use it.
oil is very cheap....i dont see a need to get anything other than what the factory runs. they build the engine and all the tollerances are to spec with a certain oil....but if you guys think "your" brand is better go right ahead.
to anyone wanting a simple answer on what to put in...just replace with factory fluids.
there is no need to have a pissing match on what you think is the best. i run lots of race cars and tow vehicles on amsoil but i prefer to put harley oil in the harley...if i was drag racing or flat track racing or something else...i might look into changing to amsoil but since the harley is just a cruiser i think the harley oil is more than sufficient. i change my fluids often which is also cheap insurance to be sure everything inside is doing just fine.
everyone has their own opinion but i think if someone is asking what to run...it should just be oem fluid.
Thank now that is the kind of answer I was looking for. Thanks for the info. I am new to the bike world, so I wanted to make sure and figured on getting some advice from some vets.
you are welcome ....seems like the forums are "if you ask what time it is ??
you get all kinds of reply's including " how the watch is made '....
I get the transmission fluid from the dealer which the service manual actually says (it says HD Fuild which is a bunch of bull so they can just make money off of you but whatever). Supposedly running synthetic trans fluid is bad but I dont know, just a rumor. Only one quart goes in. Its simple and straight forward, look it up on youtube and you should be fine. Try to level out the bike as much as possible when pouring in the fluid so you can get all one quart in.
