I'm glad to see them branch out but I can't get past the looks. Hopefully it will perform competitively but that's going to be a task considering the competition.
What a waste of time and the fact that HD is trying to compete in that arena with Ducati, KTM, BMW, who have these things dialed in is a joke. The seating position is wrong, you know the suspension will be $hit, which is a big item on these types of bikes, thats just by going off the pic.
Engineer an oil pump that works, give the bikes power they deserve and suspension they deserve for $30k. Then go on with the pipe dream. Either that, or save a bunch of money and have one of the big three make it and label it as HD.
They say that it's part of a line that ranges from 500 to 1250 cc. Based on the pics of the other bikes, it certainly doesn't look like a compact engine, it looks pretty huge...
Seeing as they already have the 500 and 750cc Streets, it seems logical that the motor for these new bikes could be a larger version of the Revolution X, at 975 and 1250cc. The pictures of the Pan America, Streetfighter, and Custom don't show any cooling fins and are very likely water-cooled engines. It's possible that they've develoed a new engine, but why make yet another liquid-cooled Revolution-style motor when they already have the X?
Plus, the Revolution X already puts out over 90 hp/liter, much more than the M8 or Sportster engines can do (they're more like 50 hp/liter). All three of those new bikes look like they're designed to compete in already very well established spaces occupied thoroughly by the Metrics, so they are going to need some actual HP to compete, and the Revolution X delivers.
If you look at the Street (XG) engine there is a lot that is very similar to those pictures. Then add the 4 cam heads that are currently being used by the HD (XG) flat track team and you have what looks to be the same engines. Rumor says the HD XG Flat track engines are over 1000 cc already so getting to 1250 would be no big deal. Since they already have this platform in house, I doubt it's anything more than a face lift of this engine platform and that the XG engine is produced in India already which is the target market for these future models the pieces fit nicely. Time will tell...................
Weird as they look, the new wet head boxer engine from 2015 up is bulletproof, 125 hp and will take anything you throw at, I think Harley will have a hard time competing with it.
On top of that they new boxer motor the 1250 is coming out this next year with 140HP, I hope Harley is on their game and not hitting the market with a underpowered machine
If these are priced right, i can see them doing very well. The looks of the Pan America are growing on me. The Street Fighter and Custom look amazing, though i wouldn't want to go far with the seat on the Custom. But i'm most excited about trying the Livewire. I've driven a lot of electric cars and vans, but never had the chance to try a motorcycle. I've no intensions of buying one, but it should be a lot of fun to ride.
Ha. Yeah mine was blue. It was a fun toy! I upgraded to a honda XR75 I believe and gave the 50 to my sister. First time she rode it, she ran head on into a tree and bent the front rim. Not sure what dad did with it, but we never fixed it.

Well if there would have any more determination in her to learn to ride, I remedied that soon after. She wanted to ride on the back of my xr and before getting on said. "Dont pop no wheelies!"
Of course I just had to do one then. She fell off and I kept going. lol She never rode again.
Hmm similar story about shooting my rifles as well. lol
