here's what HD has to say about their plan: now whether it means that there may be less hassles due to the Service interactions and dealings with them , etc, not sure, but it's still a 3 rd party contract at the end of the day..could also be priced higher due to the Bar & Shield Logo somewhere in the documentation like everything else they sell

Ride worry-free knowing you're covered by the
only Harley-DavidsonŽ factory-approved
Extended Service Plan.

I had esp with tire and wheel. Iirc I used it 5 or 6 times. 3 back tires, 1 front, and 2200 dollars esp coverage when the crank went south, Although it was on a twin cam. Imo, id say most people don't use the esp much

The coverage may be the same, not sure. But the one you get from your dealer is through HD, the one you get from that website is through a 3rd party like RPM one or something similar.

I thought about that when he told me the price lol. I feel like HD wants you to pre pay for a new motor

The Harley one is a third party as well (Cornerstone United I think). They just sell it at the dealer and take an additional 40-50% profit off the top for your pleasure.

My '09 had the tranny replaced in 2012 and the engine in 2013. So far, my '14 had a master cylinder, climate sensor and coolant pump replaced. I won't leave home w/o an ESP. As a percentage of what I spent for the cycle and accessories, it's a drop in the bucket.

Prices on ESPs certainly vary. And prices at the dealership can be negotiated. I went with DiscountESP, it was only about $1,000 for four additional years of coverage.

All ESP's are 3rd party, including HD's. The coverage is identical. Both HD ESP and DiscountESP have $50 deductible's and provide coverage for the same replacement parts. I would say there is a major advantage to DiscountESP over HD's ESP with some of the recent actions by HD.

Namely that if you void your Factory Warranty for some reason, you will have also automatically voided your HD ESP. But supposedly, if you void your HD Factory Warranty it will have NO impact on your DiscountESP coverage. That alone (in addition to the 40% savings in cost) would be enough to make me go with the DiscountESP vs the HD "sponsored" ESP.

So ESP from Discount ESP still provides coverage even with aftermarket cam, tuner, exhaust oil pump etc. Good to know!
Thanks Heatwave
