Haven't had any issues with my 18 Heritage 114. But with all the concerns over sumping I asked for a price. 3 years without the wheel and tire package is a little over 2K. Think if I am still having concerns about sumping I will just buy the S&S oil pump and plate and save $1400. By then should know for certain if that takes care of the problem. I realize the ESP would cover other issues but if something else were defective, my guess is it would have already shown up.
It is usually expensive. I ended up paying 1348 for 5 additional years with DiscountESP.com for my RGU.
I have other electronics, radio, ABS, things etc, so it made sense (for me) in my case.
I popped a head gasket on my RK at 5000mi. would have cost me more than that, I look at it as another insurance cost. I'll be buying my ESP fro Discount before the years out also.

in the big picture it's a real cash cow for them, but highly negotiable..they showed us list prices for both our 2017 Freewheeler and Road King $3298 and $3198 for 5 addt'l years with tire and wheel..ended up paying $5000 for both so that was $1500 off, still expensive but we do a lot of touring, rack up a lot of miles and plan on keeping them for years..I've already had two tires replaced from nails so sure that'll happen again, and we have had a fair amount of warranty work done in the first two years so who knows what else will go wrong. it's mainly for peace of mind knowing some catastrophic failure will be $50 out of pocket
Makes sense with the extra electronics you have. Since I dont, not sure it is. Will check out the DiscountESP.com.
Seems HD really did a great job with the new Softails anyway. No real grumblings of the issues some of the first year M8s have had. Chances are very, very good that you'll never have a problem out of it.
On that bike I would probably pass... Note: I'm probably going to get one myself this year as a second bike
I was surprised at the cost of the esp compared to other brands. Last I checked Yamaha's plan was 500 for 5 years. Unless i run into problems in the next two years i will probably skip it. By then I will want to change the exhaust and tune it anyways. I looked into that discountesp site, they only offer 3rd party plans, it's not the same as the Harley plan.

it's all relative, Yamaha techs are like the Maytag Repairman...every year Yamaha is #1 in reliability..might not use the $500 in 5 years..LOL

How so ? I've looked into both and I didn't see a bit of difference in coverage except the price point with harley being about 40% more expensive.
