Sorry about your bike Tim but I don't think HD knows how to fix it. Ask the service mngr. to ask HD for the new plate that bolts behind the oil pump, maybe that will help. There's no part number and it has to be on the engineer's recommendation to get it.

Yes, no OWNED bike. I had one, don't now.
No point buying one here in the UK as I'll be in Australia within 4 months.
No point trying to import it, it'd cost FAR too much an and take ages - Oz puts import duty of anything less than 12 months old and compliance plates cost some $2000 to have inspection and compliance. So... I pay Ł36 000 ish here... then another $20 000 for import duty, then $2500 for compliance and registration inspection.
Better to wait until I get there, no?

I still ride though - I hire bikes for a few days to a week... so I can try all sorts of **** out.

And I have an interest in this "problem" - I'm thinking of getting a '19 Tri-Glide... and Oz price is $54 000... so i do NOT want an effing sumper for that price!
Hopefully they might have fixed it in the '19s. Oh... wait... I'm not permitted to discuss it as I don't own a HD at the moment. Fwits...

You guys think that only owners are allowed to discuss issues? I'd rather discuss it BEFORE I became an owner than come back with a tale of woe.

Geez... gotta love the idiot fanbois.

Kinda like some of the voters in this country, ain't they? Only I thought it was spelled "Fanboyz". Guess it doesn't really matter that much.

If ya don't want to take a chance with getting a "sumper", the ONLY option is buying a different brand.

Reality sucks - but there you have it...

I think the spelling might be UK - US differences, maybe?

If they can show that they've fixed the problem then I'm interested - Like Stone's "fix" for the fluid transfer (so far all reports have been excellent news).
Agreed, everything has a problem or a flaw... my concern is that HD have known about it for some 2 years or so and nothing fixed and some dealers have been reported as saying "sumping WTF is that" (as if they've never read the HD bulletins).

Warranty claims happens, it's a part of buying technology.... put you claim, it gets fixed, you drive/ride away, all good. But what about the guys who've had 3 or 4 motors replaced and then sumped?
There's "normal buying" risk and then there's "We have no idea what we are doing" risk - and the two big problems with the M8 fall into that latter... HD seem to have zero clues over it.

And to call out someone for wanting to discuss it (yeah, OK, I accept that my one sentence reply was a bit trollish - but I was referring more to the "hide it away and don't talk about it" people than the issues itself) just because they don't yet own one is ludicrous. As I said - discuss it now before you own rather than after with a tale of $54 000 woes.

After all... what do they care if my 50 grand bike sumps (if, when..), they're riding the good ones!

Well here’s hoping you get your 100 % gaurantee over the course of the next 12 months that these problems that concern you are validated to no longer exist. Cheers
