Pulled out about 40 oz of oil out the sump drain. Took everything apart because I just installed aftermarket pump and plate. As I do. I always spin engine with starter while PR are out. This pumps the lifters and shows me I am primed with pressure before I move on. Rear lifters were putting out more oil than I have ever seen in any engine. Further investigation. I found this. Thats a lot of unmetered oil entering the engine.
Good catch Jason. You had me thinking about your issue a lot yesterday. This could explain a lot. Be prepared for all the M8 fanboys to come in and say this isn't an issue.

We heard HD changed the crank in 2019 Motors. I seen one from a 117 and it had hole cut out. I will agree it's a casting problem, but hey will never admit that or recall it. When the flat track boy's come to the Indy mile I'm gonna pick a few minds. They usually stop by the shop for a few cold one's.

I might make the indy mile this year. I used to build engines and tune for Roeder Racing in Ohio. If you've been following flat track for awhile you've more than likely heard of George "Geo" Roeder, his brothers and his dad.
And no, I don't suspect they would ever admit to it, they'll quietly make changes and go on business as usual. This was an excellent catch by Jason.
I don't know if this is a casting flaw or a breakthrough when drilling the passage to the main feed gallery. Maybe it was thin and pressure made the hole? Don't know. What I do know. I will continue to pump up my lifters with the engines's pump.

Yes I have , We run a silver crown on the miles and a sprint car . Our shop in in Gasoline Alley.
so mystery is considered solved as to root cause......
I'd say the jury is out weather it's solved or not. What we do know is Jason had a bike sumping (badly) and he found this issue. It'll be interesting to see if anyone else with a sumping bike finds the same issue. To me if this is the cause it could explain why some sump, some don't, some are worse than others, why some go many miles without issue then start sumping.

well it's a 'breakthrough' (pun intended) nonetheless
