Too cool..First time I heard it, I thought it was going to blow up. Most of the time when people moan about lifter, I think is really just how sounds come from these bike . If it really was a lifter like you were hearing not pumped up, they would have a heart attack.

On my Jeep I rebuilt, I have a couple tapping from not pumping up. I put new valves in it but the head seats were too hard to touch up. Farmed it out. Told them I would put it back together but they did it anyway. Either the rocker or pushrod is worn. I had cleaned lifters and the bleed wave washer was worn , so I errored on cheap. I pulled lifters out and replaced them. Going back down with rocker bolt, two only have one turn on 5/16-18 bolt before it torques. With new lifters, it starts tapping like about a solid lifter with .015 clearance.. As usually, when you go cheap, it takes 3 tries to get it right. Going to take about .040 off bottom of two of the rocker fulcrums. Or new rocker and pushrod second choice...(they

only have 300,000 on them)

Default Start up after Cam install.

So with an oil pump inner gerator change I'd take the advice of centering the oil pump assembly as a whole. With the time and money investment just suggesting you get yourself a permanent oil pressure gauge so you can monitor the start up. If you continue to have problems like that much oil in your cam chest, oil pressure will tell you if your pressure relief in the cam plate is spitting it or most of it back. Good first fire cold oil pressure should be 38 to 42 PSI. Cold shop temperature is going to cause the oil to take time to get to all parts. Hot water soaking your full unopened oil bottles just prior to adding and flashing the engine helps promote quick oil flow. Even a hair dryer aimed at your pan or bag for a period prior to fire up helps. Although it's there, I don't strictly rely on the red dummy light to tell me I have low oil pressure. I trust a gauge though. Look to Jersey Customs for that. Best of luck.

I think everyone goes through this .. it’s unnerving to say the least the first time or two. When ever I’m in an engine or drive line, I take my time and check things twice. Sometimes it gets on my boss’s nerve but I’ve yet to have a comeback. Glad you got it sorted out ... now it’s time to enjoy those cams!

I have noticed the M8 makes more racket then the TwinCam with regards to lifter noise on start up..... Im a retired diesel mechanic, when I rebuilt 8V71 or 92 Detroit Diesels { two Sstrokes } I would get weak in the knees on the first start up because if not done right those things would run away, Having a clip board ready to choke off the turbo inlet was common sense back then. Good Times!!

Rear cylinder looks to be running WAY lean/hot. Pretty blue on the pipe. Tuning?
