Default Performance Packages

Picking up a softail soon and I’m looking to bump it up, not sure exactly what. My philosophy is less is more, cam, high compression pistons, and head work is what I normally do, but I’m seeing these 124” kits and I’ve also heard that head work really isn’t necessarily needed, what I’m saying is, what work have you guys done and is a good set up.

Just a stock 107 with a different cam, a tuner and the correct exhaust is probably more than what you're used to. Might want to ride it stock for a while and do some research here so you don't buy the wrong stuff.

There's no replacement for displacement. Do it once or do it over again and spend more $. There are some excellent 124 packages out there. Look around, you'll see them.

I would be looking at 124 cylinder/piston combo, SE 64mm or HPI 62mm throttle body (don't even think of keeping that stock piece of **** plastic junk that warps), 2:1 exhaust (D&D, Drago's or Thunderheader X) or a decent head pipe muffler combo, a cam that works with the package.

If it were me, I HIGHLY recommend a Feuling cam plate and oil pump to help reduce the likelihood of sumping, use an air cleaner setup with external venting and consider venting the crank case and/or oil filler dipstick - again to reduce possibility of sumping. When you increase displacement and you actually wake those ponies up, you can easily get into sumping danger, so recommend you address.

Head work is a plus, but this time of year you are going to be down for quite a while if you want to have your stock heads ported.

A decent tuner (TTS or PowerVision) is a must. You will not get out of it what you want with the junk HD street tuner.

Are you getting a 107" or a 114"? The 114" motors really put out with just a cam, air cleaner, and exhaust.

But there's always the low performance HD builds that seem to sump a lot for those that want the excitement of sumping and waiting for a month while HD replaces your engine. Yeah I'm not much of a believer in what the dealers do lol.

might help others advise better if you provide more detail...what model of Soft Tail and how do you intend to use it? I mean a Fat Bob to try and smoke people around town or twisty river canyons might have different requirements than a Heritage pulling double duty as a Touring bike, etc..just a suggestion anyway

cool, love the Low Rider, light, affordable and classic look and feel, and this answers the above question whether it'll be a 107 or 114...$tonecold here has partnered with resident Product Expert Steve Cole to do some performance builds and can offer some great advice. Also, Fuel Moto is well respected here so you might want to visit their website and give them a shout. I'm sure you'll be able to Build a Beast the right way with their help. Beyond that I'm sure many will chime in on their results on their own efforts or from having followed the aforementioned experts. What's great about this forum is folks have shared their experiences with different exhausts, tuners, etc. So take your time and start 'shopping'. Good luck , sounds exciting!

My 2019 Low Rider w/dealer installed Stage 3 has been rock solid. Granted i’ve only been able to put ~2k miles so far, but it has tons of power (all I could want from a HD), and sounds great with the higher compression the kit provides.

Now that I’ve got the power I want, all left is some Öhlins fork cartridges and black lowers, some Pirelli’s or maybe those new Metzlers, and a better seat. Once released, a Arlen Ness big brake rotor, and maybe a SuperBrace.

That’s my entire to-do list.
