that's bs. nowhere does it say that that price is contingent upon trade in of your old tins. it isn't like it's a cvo and you're having to replace like for like. if they're trying to keep my stock stuff, they better be giving me some $ off.

Not just numbered sets, any ‘custom’ paint from the moco.

If an HD custom paint set (w/tins) costs $7k, what would it cost, on average, to have a bike custom painted? I have fallen hard for the "Mako Shark" paint on the 2019 CVO, but $43k for a bike isnt in my near future that for sure. If I wanted to reproduce that on my bike (repaint) using what would you expect to pay from a quality paint shop? Do custom paint jobs hurt resale value? I would expect you'd get some of your money back with an HD paint set, but probably not on a custom job?

The only way you're going to get accurate quotes fortunately is to start asking local shops as prices vary quite significantly based on region.

I know from when I was asking around for paint jobs on my '79 Lowrider that a custom, one-off paint job of pearl white with blue metal flakes was going to run around $2200. Add in the additional front batwing fairing and saddlebags, and I would double it just as an estimate.

Aftermarket paint is almost always going to lower the value of the bike, at the very least I wouldn't expect it to add value if it didn't come from the factory like that.

I never ended up doing that pearl white paint job, it remains black at this time. However, the shop that I trusted most was known for repainting classic Ferraris and other Italian cars.

I’m with ya, that’s one of the reasons I won’t buy a Harley custom paint set. I’ve seen it happen a few times

there's a guy on Daytona Craigslist, advertising Painted Inner fairings,

you should hit him up for a total paint job price, prolly be closest to right price for quality, several ppl have used him that i have met.

I thought there was a custom paint set by the moco that was discontinued for some issues in the painting process. Was this not that color/set?

7 large might seem steep but you get all new tins along with a killer paint job. I don't buy into the theory that limited number paint sets add resale value but that is not why we throw money at our machines.
Why would you think that? I have a 19 CVO. Doesn't bother me in the least.

So you have a 28K Street Glide special, you add the paint set, now its 36K. You still do not have heated grips, more chrome parts, and matching collection for floor boards, grips and shifter and so on. You also do not have the nicer rims.

You go to trade it in, the value is based a a street glide special, you got zero for your 7K paint set.

Value of my CVO trade, is that of a CVO.....

That said, I have an 03 Fatboy with a limited numbered paint set and the factory silver and black paint set. In 09 it was worth what any other 03 Fatboy was worth. When I learned that, I have only bought CVO bikes since, and add almost nothing. I come out money a head, My fatboy will not be sold.

I think what custom paint jobs do more than anything is shrink the pool of potential buyers should you ever decide to sell. Because some may not agree with your taste in custom paint.

I think that Custom paint makes the bike stand out among the sea of other Harley’s sporting identical paint schemes. I am not worried about re-sale value and pool of potential buyers one bit.

I’ve never walked by a completely stock, vivid black Harley and thought to myself... Wow!!
