Not disagreeing, but just pointing out -- how is that any different from, say, engine upgrades? If someone pours $8,000 into a 124 kit, I know for a fact I'm not going anywhere near that bike. I don't know how hard it's been run, how abused it's been, what pieces were used, whether the work was done right, etc. Yet lots of people do it all the time.

It's pretty much impossible to get your money out of any upgrades you put on a bike. Custom paint, engine work, those are things that you'd do to a keeper, and they are not "investments", they're "expenses". If the expense makes you happy, and you can live with the fact that you've made your bike unsellable, go for it.

Where are you at in FL? There's a guy in NW FL between Destin and Pensacola that did my inner fairing 2 tone with a stripe. Got that done, the tank dash, the surround of the

tour pak light, and fairing vent all done at the same time for $350 if I remember right.

It isn't different at all - not that I said it was.

The original post said that adding the paint set will not add value to the bike and my opinion backed by experience. Trade in or retail it doesn't do a thing unless you get that one in a million guy that is looking for that paint, not likely to happen. If you do use a HD paint set what you are getting is a know entity, what you see is what you get and it is styled by professionals. How many custom paint jobs have you seen that make you think what was that guy thinking. One of the most beautiful paint jobs I had was on a stock CVO V rod in cherry red

I agree some custom paint sets can lower the value of your bike however if tastefully done I believe it can increase its value. This is my wife 09 Deluxe and when we brought it the very first thing we did was ADD the pearl white to make it two-tone paint set not the stock red one colour, we used the existing factory pin stripes to determine where the white paint was placed. Of course it also didn't come with the wheels, pipes and bars when purchased

While I had previously posted that the number sets do not add value at trade or sale time, I did point out my fatboy has a number set.

This is my Wife's 2015 Road Glide special. We had the whole bike painted at delivery. The purple is a Harley color used for 3 months in 2011. Again we know we will get nothing extra for it, but its what my wife wanted. We traded the 15 for an 17. We bought a gloss black 17, and had the dealer swap the tins, so her 17 looks just like this. Will most likely do it again for a 19 or 20.

It’s nice, but as for me, hell to the no! For 7 grand, I’d be getting a personalized custom paint job.
