My 2018 RKS seems to have a quick lifter tick on startup after it's sat for a day or two. This only started showing up after I put spectro synthetic in with a k&n oil filter at the 5k service. I'm guessing its either the lifter is bleeding down faster with the synthetic or I have a lifter going south. Any ideas?
My 2018 RGU (twin cooled) will do this once in awhile. Recently the bike sat for 3 weeks unstarted while I had some surgery. When it started up there was maybe two seconds of clatter, then it went "normal." Ordinarily I ride my bike every day, around 75 miles. The daily first start usually doesn't show any clatter. But every so often, maybe once a week or two, it will, for just a brief second. My 2016 Ultra Classic did the same thing.
On my '19 Softail it has a bit of a tick at start up. Only lasts for seconds, but my tourer doesn't do that.
Its supposed to thicken the oil up and add cling so it will stick to the moving parts better. They used to have displays in auto parts stores showing how it clings to gears better with less run off than regular oil. It sounds like it could help with lifter bleed down which is the the noise you and I are getting at start up. It could be snake oil though so ymmv.

Ha, ok thanks. I don't have 1K miles yet on the softail, so maybe after 1st oil change it will get better. Close to 900 miles at this point. So after 1st oil change I will re-asses seeing then I will have my choice of oil vs. what HD put in there new.
Speaking of slight ticking on cold start up thats what mine started as and has progressed to this and has gotten worse since this was taken. The lifers were replaced and it did quite it down but only for a week or so and now it has gotten so bad bad the it does it sometimes when the motor is hot. I just got back from 8 day road trip and it got to the point that I hoped no one was around when I started it. Not sure what my next step is. I tried to upload the video but it wont work but take my word for it its Nasty.
