Just bought 2019 Ultra Limited and have almost been hit by cager twice because it's TOO QUIET! I don't want anything obnoxiously loud just a nice rumble all the time. I'm debating between the Cobra Race-Pro slip on's and Bassani DNT 4 in. Chrome Straight Can Muffler. Any pro's or con's for both? Is either one better than the other in terms of company, finish, warranty etc.?
Have you considered the HD Street Cannons? I found my '17 Limited too quiet as well. The Street Cannons look good and the make the sound a lot rounder and fuller without any obnoxious snapping. Good Luck with your choice.
Check out westendmotorsports YouTube video section. They have sound clips of just about everything out there. Just a heads up, some of their newer videos have a s+s cam and aftermarket header, you should be able to pick those out pretty easily. A lot of stock M8 videos though.
The M8’s require a lot of back pressure. If you go with a free flow muffler you may very well lose low end torque. Check FuelMoto out, they have a lot of videos and dyno sheets.
I’ve had Street Canons and they really didn’t make a big enough difference to me. I had DNT on my ‘16 Road King and they were pretty good. On the M8 I’m interested in the Magnaflow Hitman slip ons. I like the sound and I’ve heard good things.
Making the bike "louder" does not make sense, never has. Physics is pretty simple bike is going forward and sound is behind you. Only in an enclosed area, Like hear in Maryland one of the main streets that goes tot he water front can you really hear that sound. Get new LED lights, turn signals, and a WOLO Horn..... I for one believe you'll be a lot happier and be seen. Just my opinion, Good luck with what ever you do. CSM-H
Cages also have radios blaring and other noises/distractions in vehicles. The Doppler effect as h7009 explained above will explain why loud exhaust isn’t the answer.
