Default To Dyno or Not... Big Bore kit with TTS

So I've got a 2017 Road Glide Special. I've added a Red Shift 468 cam, Woods Lifters, D&D Billet Cat, SE Heavy Breather, PowerVision + Target Tune... Runs great.

Now, I'm going to add an S&S 124" kit... (Pistons, Cylinders, push rods and tubes. new head bolts.) Just a displacement upgrade.
  1. Do I have Fuel Moto mod my current map for displacement as a base tune? Then rely on the Wide Band Target tune to dial the tune for the new jugs?
  2. Or should I plan to take it to a Dyno shop after heat cycling?
On my cam and exhaust upgrade the TTS did a much better job than the H-D Dealer did on their Dyno... but I've other friends that have used another shop that did a great job with their bikes. Do I trust the Target Tune for a Displacement upgrade and let it rip without the dyno shop? With the Shop I'll at least see on paper what my numbers are... without it, it's just my butt dyno guesses.

We have a a good base map for your application in our database (it would be a completely different tune for the big bore) and it should not take much effort to get the bike tuned in using your PV & Target Tune. We are more than happy to assist with any tuning questions or technical assistance and you can also send in logs/tunes for us to review, this is literally the same ECM data we are looking at on the dyno when we have a bike here firsthand, the only difference being we don't have HP/Tq data for review. We help tune in the dozens of users and shops tune big bore applications remotely every week, it all comes down to if you want to take the time to do it yourself and having a willingness to learn. You will find more info on our FM University site here> https://university.fuelmotousa.com/

NOTE: you will also need larger injectors with the 124" kit.

The real question is, does the piece of paper mean anything to you? Save your money on the Target Tune as it's not going to make it any better than a good tune to begin with.

I already have the Target Tune installed... So no savings there.

Thanks Jamie...

Good to know on the injectors... was not certain if I needed to go there yet. Was the next thing I was going to research. I didn't see injectors for sale on your site.. I assume the HD 5.5g/Sec injectors are the right parts.

I'll hit you guys up for a new base map for at least heat cycling and a place to start for either Dyno or Self tuning. I'm not a cheapskate... so I might just go with the Dyno Tune at Valley Racing in IL... they have a good rep and aren't too far away.

That sounds like a good plan, if you decide to go with Valley Racing you are in good hands, i've know Brian and the family for over 25 years. The 5.5gm injectors would be my recommendation.

Update... the big bore kit went in just fine and the bike ran and sounded great until about 80 miles into break-in miles and bam started running like ****.. temp rising... Sounded like the symptoms that I read in the many sumping threads here. I put the bike in the chock to get it upright when I got it home. (Luckily I was near home) I pulled the crank position sensor to see how much oil was in the crank case. There was WAY more than 3-6 ounces. So I get the pleasure of opening the cam chest up this weekend and installing a new S&S pump and Cam Plate.

Nah, I trust the S&S as a true performance upgrade... it's already in process of getting installed. I'll be finished tomorrow afternoon assuming that my fluids and filter arrive.
