need advise on SEPST Spark advance adjustment advice
Yes, I know there are better tuners, but I want to keep my warranty. I have done several data record sessions and am getting the VE front and Rear cylinders pretty close to where I want them. Bike runs good. I am noticing it is running hotter than before I did the Stage one kit and am confused about one thing. From what I understand you can adjust the front and rear spark timing, the front one will allow me to adjust it as much as 4 degrees. I cannot find in the tutorial that I have watched 20 times if I need to actually adjust it and if so will it screw anything up. I don't want to go in and just start screwing with the front and rear spark advance and cannot find any information on the internet to guide me. Can anyone try to explain to me if I need to adjust it and if so by how much or if by doing so will it screw anything up? And advice, tips, reassurance would be appreciated. Also if it is adjusted will it lower the temp at all? I cant seem to get a straight answer and when I call the stealership that sold it to me I cant get a straight answer.I am sure someone in here may have had this issue before and am hoping someone can help. I am just trying to get it dialed in properly without messing anything up.
Thanks in advance.
What temps are to seeing now? And what were the temps before?
Also, your bike has built in knock sensors and will adjust spark timing automatically.
Before trying to mess with spark timing you should first identify the root cause of the temp difference
the rear cylinder will not allow any adjustment and are all white on the graph. the temp went from around 250 degrees up to about 300 degrees after the Stage 1 install. I know these engines do run hot due to EPA compliance, but I am trying to get as much out of this tuner as I can and was thinking that if I were to adjust these parameters it may help cool the engine and also decrease some of the ticking noise I have. I have a good grasp on the tuner itself just not on adjusting or decreasing the spark advance on the front cylinder or if I even need to. maybe I am reading too much into that portion of the tuner. I went to my local dealer to have it dyno tuned and they told me it was basically a waste of money to put it on the dyno unless I go to a stage 2 build, which I appreciate them saving me 3-400 dollars. I just am not sure if I even need to worry about fooling with changing the advance on the front cylinder. maybe i am worrying about it too much and should just let it be as it is.
