Default Hello All,,, Decat the headers?

I have A 2018 Road King Special, living here in the southeast ,parade mode kicks in alot. I'm contemplating decatting the headers to let it run cooler. Has anyone done this yet and is there a difference in performance? The M8 is awesome so I don't want to lose any of its power

The engine is not going to run cooler because you de-cat the headers. All that heat is after the exhaust leaves the engine.

Even in a stage 1 setup where in theory adding more fuel would *maybe* allow the engine to run slightly cooler, but that wouldn't have much effect on EITMS kicking in.

Whats the problem with EITMS kicking in?

Exactly. I have a 107, 475c, V&H power duals, and power vision. Taking the cruise and lower load mixture from 14.5:1 down to 14.0:1 made no distinguishable difference in temp, according to the PV temp.

I noticed a slight reduction in heat after removing the cats, but the biggest changes will be from either getting a good aftermarket tune, cooling fan, or a new exhaust all together.

Performance wise I didn't notice any difference, but it made the bike sound fantastic! If you're running more free flowing slip ons, removing the cat can cause you to lose additional backpressure and therefore losing a bit of low end torque.

I went with an S&S 2-1 pipe and boy does the bike run great!!
Actually, the reason for the pipe was to cool down the exhaust
some so my wife's leg wouldn't get HOT and red.
It worked for us.
The S&S pipe is around $500 bucks.
An added advantage is you can use slip ons for stock '16 bikes,
meaning you aren't stuck with the big outlet on the right side....

I def noticed heat reduction when i did an aftermarket stage 2 on my 17 RGS. FM headers, S&S cam and all, along with a canned tune initially from FM with the power vision tuner. So not sure if alone one part would cause a noticeable heat reduction, but I did noticed a drop. I ride in shorts sometimes in really hot temps and I can tell when the heat on my right leg is much lower.
