Default Crotch cooler - causes engine to run hotter?

I've been looking at the various crotch coolers, Captain Itch's in particular. My first thought is that it might cause the engine to run hotter, since it's blocking heat from escaping from the rear cylinder. Anyone had problems with this?

Nope, it hasn't been a problem on my 07 UC even in near 100 degree Florida heat. Without it though, the Mrs. and I wouldn't be riding.

I've used one on my Road King and my Road Glide Ultra. I don't see how they could make the motor run hotter - the heat has already been generated. The thick leather just directs it away from your jewels.

I'd say you have a legitimate concern but I highly doubt there are enough people running a rear CHT gauge and crotch coolers, or even 1 for that matter, that might be able to validate that for you, I'd be interested to know the qualified answer myself.

I ran about 350 miles this weekend in South FL; hotest reading on oil was 265 in stop & go 25-35 mph traffic. All engine parts are stock, except for Arlen Ness Air cleaner and HD Oil Cooler. The oil cooler/Moblie 1 made a big difference - dropped oil temp 20-30 degrees in these conditions. I use the smaller "No More Fried Thighs," because I like the look - maybe not as effective, but no problem riding and I wear Jeans/Boots/Mesh Jacket (zipped up)/half-helmet. Cheers, Kevin.

Unless you've got blocks of ice for ballz, I'm not seeing how it would make your bike run hotter than it is now...

Jus sayin

Default Over 100

It's been well over 100 here the past few days. The heat still pours from the motor, just not over the family jewels! No quantified numbers to throw at you but, no pinging, detonation or other nonsense. (09 Road King)
