Default Warranty Or Performance

Good Morning,
Purchased a new bike. Would like to do Stage 1 & 2. Comparing Harleys torque cam & Zippers Red Shift 468. No comparison. I realize I void the warranty going after market, but it doesn't make sense to me to use the Harley cam based on the numbers. ( Just my opinion ). I'm thinking the dealer can use the existing lifters because they are brand new. Wondering if I should be upgrading the lifters & tappet cuffs to ensure reliability. I hate to give up the warranty but I realize I can't have it both ways. Or am I over thinking it? Thanks in advance for any opinions.

I upgraded within 200 miles of new but I usually like to get 1k miles on the stock bike to confirm no factory defects. I've been doing this on new bikes since 1973, still have not lost any sleep, my Harleys have all been fine.
Now stay tuned for the hand wringers.

Your choice is price/performance vs warranty. Most parts manufacturers will give you a 1 year warranty.

I would definitely replace the lifters and cuffs. No question. Harley lifters are crap.

If by new you mean a 2021 may as well wait awhile. Aftermarket is not ready yet with ability to tune the 2021. All of the major players working on it but not there yet. As for the HD SE tuner and HD parts you will come up short and empty pockets.

You could get a aftermarket warranty (I did see my post on this not to far down) if your worried, I did,, I know resale is better if you have a warranty if I sell before the 5 year warranty is gone if not peace of mind, But in all honesty the newer bikes I have bought past the 2004 Heritage and the cam tensioner issues at 40k I've had had little problems with one wheel bearing in the 2008. I did Fueling cam chest kit in my 2014 and that was a great decision Ran great still did on trade in day. GL

what bike do you have? 107 or 114? how do you ride? solo or two up, mostly in town or touring?

depends on what is really most important to you..since the M8 came out the overwhelming majority of people have reported here they are very satisfied with the SE 447 Torque cam performance upgrade..'numbers' are not the most important thing...as far as

"I hate to give up the warranty but I realize I can't have it both ways. "

you actually may be able to have satisfactory performance, reliability and warranty..answer the first set of aforementioned questions above and go from there...if you want to do burnouts or pop wheelies then get a radical aftermarket cam, loud pipes, AC and tuner..but if you just want a decent power increase over an already strong stock powertrain and value your warranty then SE ain't bad...of course $$$ will solve all your dilemmas

If you're chasing numbers, why stop at Stage 2?

Only you can answer that question. Both sides have there pro's and con's and they have pretty much been played out on here over and over. With the way newer equipment is I doubt most would need the warranty but things can and do happen. I straddle the fence on this stuff. I have one heavily modified bike and one mostly stock. The stock one is my long range touring bike while the modified one is more local day trips where if it grenades it's close to home.

For me it's a performance. I went to stage 2 at my first service at 1k. Had the dealer do everything. Around 3500 miles the bike started leaking oil out of the primary. Found the breather tube had popped In/out and was letting fluid bypass. They processed it as a warranty with no questions. They did tell me some dealers would have charged due to the aftermarket changes. I believe it's all in the relationship you have with them. I have a great relationship with everyone in the store. I've also referred other friends to buy bikes from them. Now I'm sure if I built my motor and an internal failure occurred it wouldn't be covered. But oh well that's the fun of building bikes.

Life is to short to ride a stock anything.
