Trask Check M8 - Another Perspective
My impressions: The engine spins up a bit faster, and the 2k RPM firing impulse I had been feeling has been all but eliminated. This impulse appeared after I had a dyno tune, and while not horrible, it rattled my fairing and bars enough at 2k RPM to make it annoying and I had thoughts about another tune to see if we could get rid of it. It also feels like it runs smoother throughout the entire RPM range. I’ll be here for a few more days, then ride back home to Vegas. If I notice anything else that I think you might like to hear about I’ll try and come back and report on it.
Another interesting tid-bit is that I had done a breather bypass quite a while ago. This makes me wonder if, as some people who are smarter on this stuff than I am, contend that the breather bypass or the Check M8 will provide the same benefit of allowing the oil tank system to breathe. They are in 2 completely different areas, so maybe both are better than one or the other? In my case, both seems better but I’m certainly not a subject matter expert.
I learned that during development of this part slight performance gains in horsepower were realized on the dyno, but Trask makes no claims about it. It’s simply marketed a product that allows the M8 engine oil tank system to breathe.
Edited to add - On 2019 (early) and earlier M8's, there is not a seal between the oil pump body and the crankcase. If you have not added this seal (done with the 8 lobe pump), Moots states that you will most might get oil pushed out of the Check M8 vent. In mid 2019 the seal and pump were added at the factory.
Meet “Moots”, the developer and super nice guy.

What kind of tool is he using to take the front screws out with?
Here is what the original looks like.
