Same issue. I have a 2021 Road Glide Special with the WHIM installed. CarPlay worked perfectly when using an iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 15 and plugged into the bikes USB port. Then my Company upgrade my phone to an iPhone 13 Pro. I transferred all my data from the old phone to the new phone during setup. I have iOS 15.4.1 on the new phone. Now I cant get CarPlay to work no matter what I do with the new phone. Ive tried every troubleshooting guide I can find and every step multiple times, but nothing works. I hate to have to do it, but I may have to back up my phone, reset to factory settings, set up fresh and then put data on from back up. Has anyone tried installing the application iMyFone Fixppo on their computer, and then plugging the phone into their computer and running the program to fix the issue? I hate to pay the cheapest subscription cost at $39.95 if it doesnt work. A guide I found list this application as the ultimate fix if nothing else works and is supposed to protect your data on the phone.
is your headset turned on when you try to start carplay? if it doesn't detect a mic, then it won't start.
my wife and i both have 2019s with the gts. way back when, we got the initial hack to get carplay without headset required and no whim. later we got the whims installed and my bike will do carplay with no headset/mic but hers won't. no rhyme or reason to this stuff.
Stratch,
Yes, I have the headset turned on just like I did when I had my old phone. I can't get CarPlay to even come up on the bike at all. I started with the adapter that let me get CarPlay, but it didn't give full functionality with the bike. So, I removed the adapter and installed the WHIM. CarPlay worked perfectly with the WHIM installed with my iPhone 7 Plus, but will not come up with the iPhone 13 Pro.
The cable is good and I can listen to my music from my phone through the bike using the original Apple cable and it charges my phone. Boom! Box GTS is shown under CarPlay in my phone and Boom! Box GTS is updated to the latest version, which is the same version that worked perfectly with the iPhone 7 Plus. All the settings are correct per all the CarPlay trouble shooting guides.
I guess I'm going break down and spend the $40 for one month's subscription for iMyFone Fixppo. It would be worth it if it works to prevent having to reset the phone to factory settings and start reloading everything from scratch.
2020 was the last year that you could use CarPlay without a headset connected with whim enabled. I believe you needed a flash to disable the mic for it to work. Starting in 2021, Harley closed the workaround so if you have whim enabled on a gts radio, you have to have the wireless headset connected for it to work. Those jumpers wont work on these either. If you notice, everyone saying it works fine for them have 2020 or 2019 whim enabled bikes.
I have a 2019 and the jumper. WHIM is not enabled. Never was. Works perfectly.

Is there any chance that "projection" somehow got turned off?
I made a contradictory statement to your post yet you said exactly
Did I miss something? I usually do. So Im just asking.
If you have a 2020 or older bike without whim enabled, you should have no issues with carplay. I have a 2019 RGS where it works perfectly without any headset, on my 2021 cvo limited, no way to work without the headset connected.

just me, but i don't trust those things..... i would hold off and see if you can't solve this issue first. have you power cycled everything?
Ghostrek, when you got your new phone and "transferred" settings does that mean you transferred the CarPlay settings? If so try deleting the head unit's profile for CarPlay from your phone. Then reboot the phone, and set the head unit back up in the phone's CarPlay profile.
As far as the jumper and the WHIM setting, for bikes without WHIM... used to be enabling WHIM was the work around for wired bikes to get CarPlay to work, and dealers were doing this without anyone even asking for it to be done (they did on my bike when I added the GTS in August/September of 2019)... there was another setting in DigitalTech that was necessary too, it was setting CarPlay Mic Type to "disabled" (choices were "Wired", "Wireless", or "Disabled"). By doing this, it disable it from looking for a mic... HD fixed the enabling WHIM part, so CarPlay would work with both wired & wireless systems, without enabling WHIM on a wired bike. But, HD had to take the Mic disabling setting out of their software (Digital Tech) as a result of Apple finding out about it and raising a stink. That happened in the spring/early summer of 2020.
So, if you don't have WHIM and want to use the jumper hack, and can't get it working... be sure WHIM has not been enabled on your bike.
If you don't want to do the jumper and do not want to HAVE TO HAVE a headset connected, find an Indy with Diag4Bike (not sure about any other programmer software's capability) to "disable" CarPlay Mic Type under "Radio Customizations" in the BCM. Because the setting is still there, just the dealer's Digital Tech software can't access it anymore. Just know this... if a dealer hooks DigitalTech up to your bike for some reason you could loose your "hack" and have to take it back to the indy to redo that setting...
Skratch, I think your bike has the CarPlay Mic setting set to disabled somehow, but your wife's is probably set to "wireless". IF a dealer has been hooked up to your bike, I'm surprised your bike's setting didn't also get changed to "wireless" for mic type... but I don't know what they have to be doing in the BCM, for it to "force" that change. Meaning does it happen automatically or do they have to be accessing a certain screen?.. I don't know
Just got a 2022 RGS and was shocked that Car Play didn’t come already enabled. For some reason I thought that Harley had seen the light and just enabled it with the new Boom systems. My previous was a 17 SG and I just got used to the phone on an X Ram mount on the bars. Yes, they tried to sell me the WHIM for $300 but I didn’t want to have to use a Harley headset as I use Pactalk for rides with my group. So a little research and I found this:
