Default Dakota Digital Gauges

Looking info from those that have might know if there is an alternative location for DDG's oil temp sensor. I called the factory and confirmed the sensor goes in the oil drain plug. I don't like the idea of taking the sensor out every time I change the oil.

I'm lookin at one and the website description gives a couple options. I have not called and talked to tech about it. Here is what they post on the website.
This is in reference to using it with their speedometer.
Oil temperature sensor screws into crankcase, oil reserve tank or oil line (when using appropriate fittings)

I'm looking at the entire package: MLX-8414 for a 2019 Ultra

I didn't want to place it in my drain plug too, so I just selected for it to show cylinder head temp.

I unclip the sensor lead and wind the plug out as per usual (the sensor remains in the plug). Not a problem IMHO

MLX-8414
The instructions (confirmed with factory) the sensor REPLACES the drain plug. Your bike made prior to 2017?

not sure what factory confirmed it for you but the one that made mine supplied a sensor and adaptor and the following instructions to fit my 2017 FLHXS

Thanks for posting, now I see what the difference. DDG changed how they do this now. They don't supply the adapter any longer. Even revised their manual vs. yours. I'm going to call them back and see if I can get the adapter.
Thanks again!

you're welcome, I suspected a change... but at least you now know how it was done Oct 2020 (when I got mine).

I believe they have two sensors now. The MLX-8414 kit comes with the one that will fit without an adapter and is 3/8" male NPT.

I have the gauges sitting on my bench waiting for me to find some time to get the install completed.
