Default how many removed cat and had better results?

I have a 2017 FLHTK 107 motor. I am thinking of removing the cat and leaving the OEM mufflers on. I am guessing I will need a retune/map? Those that have done this or seen it done, is there a noticeable positive difference? I really don't want a loud bike, though I assume it will get a bit louder done this way.

Removing the cat won't make very much difference in sound or performance.

It will be a touch louder, same power.seen several that did not tune and they run fine. But that would be up to you.
will lose a lot of heat from the right side.

What he said. ^^^
I decatted my 2020 FLHX just to reduce felt heat. It didn’t change much for a solo rider.

Fuel Moto will tell you you need a tune, and I did.

Coyotejunki, There is no real performance gain, if you continue to run stock mufflers it will have a little deeper tone. The BIG difference is the 125 degree heat loss on the right side. Yep, I measured it on my Road Glide and then my Road King. I did not retune for that modification. Good luck, CSM-H

I recently replaced the factory head pipe with the Fuel Moto Jackpot 2-1-2 stainless steel pipe and it really cooled down the exhaust, I didn't notice any big increase from the sound of the exhaust from before. I can't say how much just changing the exhaust did because I also did the SE Ventilator with K&N drop in filter and a custom tune from FM at the same time. Really helped the bike scoot down the road but unfortunately it wasn't enough and a Woods 22X-E cam is going in next Tuesday with another FM custom tune so I will worry about sound and heat then... Good luck on your project..

When you change cams you will experience a noticeable louder bark so wait to adjust your exhaust sound level until the cam is installed then decide.

I decatted the header when going to Stage II, but kept the original mufflers. It is louder, but can't say how much is the decatted header or cam change. I can say for certain the right side of the bike is much cooler for the rider, and passenger if I have one. I have a new set of S&S Grand National mufflers ready to go on, but so far I'm good with the sound of the OEM mufflers and always liked the looks anyway.

The cat converter on these newer bikes flow well, so other than the heat issues, I likely would have not removed it.

I just removed the cat from my 21 Street Glide. I felt a lot of heat on the right side. Heard that removing cat will lower heat. So I did. Rode about 350 miles yesterday and noticed a bit of heat in both morning and afternoon. I'm trying to be logical and understand this, but there is still a bit of heat from the right side. Now I'm trying to figure if the sun and temps have much to do with this or if it's in my mind!! We have had some higher than normal temps and humidity lately, so I won't rule that out either. But I think the heat is reduced, and the bike does not seem noticeably louder. I'm happy I did this.

well, nothing changes the fact that you are sitting on top of an internal combustion engine so consider "still a bit of heat from the right side" a win....sure seems the tolerance levels of individuals vary greatly...I have never been bothered much by the heat these have put off, rather just consider it a manageable annoyance
