Just got my renewal from Dairyland today. Three Harleys and it went up over $400 to almost $1500. Went online and checked Dairyland, Progressive and Harley. Interesting results. Dairyland was $1125.30 Harley was $1282.78 and Progressive was only $512. I have high coverage and when I did the on-line comparison, there was some differences from my current policy but all three on-line quotes were as close as possible.
Can someone explain the reason for the difference between Progressive and the others? What am I missing?

Progressive's multi-vehicle discount is huge--we find this with other carriers we write with as will. Dairyland's premium can be hit or miss. They do have longer Replacement Cost Coverage than Progressive though. Feel free to shoot over the info and we can compare. We also have 3 other carriers not mentioned on your list--one that provides Replacement for Life Coverage. If your motorcycle is stolen or destroyed, it can be replaced with a brand new, current year model. We need to be 2-years old or newer to lock in the coverage.

I've been with Progressive for over 5 years with my Ultra and just added a 2022 Street Bob to my policy. I looked into Markel and they were almost double what I am paying with Progressive ($683 for Progressive/$1204 for Markel). Those loyalty rewards and multi vehicle/policy discounts really add up.
From your friend in the insurance business. Sometimes the cheapest option IS NOT your best option. Ever have a claim and fought tooth and nail to be put whole? I learned a few good lessons from personal experience and a large portion of my career with Chubb and Lloyds.
My claim with Progressive was on a brand new bike (less than 100 miles on it - a RGU) where I was rear ended while moving. Progressive did a great job. I did change to Geico about 3 years ago as Progressive did a blanket raise of about 25% in my area.
You're approach is correct in asking fellow riders their factual opinions. There are carriers that are Nightmares to deal with (I wont name them) but the 2 you mentioned I have heard nothing bad about. Every carrier does have a convenience charge for staged payments. The reason is insurance companies objective is to have a -5% to +5% sway in premium intake vs. payout on claims. They make their money on reinvestment. Not having cash on hand, that fee is a small part of the offset.
