NYC motorcycle only checkpoints
The NYMSTF would like to warn NYC area motorcycle riders that a
motorcycle -only checkpoint is currently operating at the foot of the
Williamsburg Bridge on the Manhattan side. They are pulling over ALL
motorcyclists and only motorcyclists, checking for all paperwork and
equipment.
On Tuesday a similar checkpoint was reportedly in ope...ration at the
Queensboro Bridge.
In previous years, the day of the Puerto Rican Day parade has seen
multiple checkpoints operating simultaneously throughout the city,
resulting in area motorcyclists being stopped several times throughout
the day for redundant paperwork and equipment checks.
We expect to see checkpoint activity rise between now and then.
Please warn everyone you know who rides a motorcycle.
The NYMSTF reminds everyone to ride legally, safely and with utmost
vigilance.
It is our opinion that these checkpoints are illegal, unconstitutional
and violate NYPD departmental policies. If you feel your rights have
been violated strictly because you are a motorcyclist we encourage you
to file complaints with the CCRB and to contact your elected officials.
Incidents may also be reported to our attorney by using the complaint
link on our web site. Such reports may be useful in future possible
class actions against the NYPD.

same bulls**t happens up here for Americade. NYS Troopers usually set up around exit 18 & pull Bikes Only over. writing tickets for pipes, helmets, tags, etc etc..haven't heard anything yet & the event starts next week.

Last year at Americade I rode the Northway many times a day and didnt get pulled over and didnt see any one getting pulled over... If they were at exit 18 they were invisable

They were at the rest stop last year just north of Albany on 87 detouring all bikes off. We avoided it by taking 9. One guy was telling us he got pulled over twice and the same cop was there. He had an expired inspection and the cop asked him why he had not got it inspected in the day or two since he was stopped the first time...

That's called "selective enforcement" and it is illegal almost everywhere in the U.S. However, it's such a PITA to fight that the cops know most people won't, so they get away with it. It's worthwhile to get stopped - especially if you aren't breaking any laws - and file complaints against the arresting department/officer. We need to fight this type of BS wherever we find it before we lose all of our rights.

where did my rights go?
I heard that Freeport LI cops pulled over all motorcycles entering the Nautical Mile.If anyone got snagged by that one,call Proner and Proner.They are the law firm suing NY state.These stops must end!Call all your mc buds to mob a stop if it's local.Make sure you are legal.Who knows,you could cash in on a big settlement.
