Whats a good shop in ct that works on older bikes?
I can highly recommend Motorcycle City on Route 44 on Canton. 693-3600 - talk to George. I just had extensive work done to my '89 and am very pleased with the results.
Just join the foum and just noticed this thread. Moved from Chicago to Hamden last July. Been busy but the Hamden area does not seem like a great place to ride. Only put a few hundred on last year. Cant seem to find my way around. I hear if you head north it gets better. It is a pretty state but not in Kansas anhymore Totto. Pops

I guess it depends on what kind of riding you're looking for. There are no big, straight flat highways like out West, but there's lots of great two lane blacktop. I grew up in Cheshire, so I know your area pretty well (live in New Hartford now). If you head out of Hamden from theMt. Carmel or Brooksvale sections of townand get on Route 69, you'll have a nice ride up to Waterbury, where you can get on 84 to 8. Route 8 will take you up into Litchfield county, where there's lots of great riding roads all through the hills up there.
Or you can take the Wilbur Cross Parkway North out of Hamden to Meriden, take 66 to cross the river in Middletown and there's a bunch of great roads out that way in Northeastern CT (Tolland and Windham counties).
The state (believe it or not) publishes a special motorcycle edition of the official state map, with suggested rides mapped out. Lots of bike shops have copies of these to give away. You can also check out this online version: http://www.motorcycleroads.us/ct.html
I like 2 lane country type roads. Spenta fewyears in Wisconsin also. Seems like you have to grab highways to get to them from here and I hate highways. Drivers seem to aim for you here. I also usually like to be heading to some bar that has nice cold Coors on tap. Sorry but I am one that will have a few and still ride. Been doing it since forever and just to old to change I guess. Dont get me wrong but a beer or 4 is just part of the fun for me. Thanks RCS I will check out the map.
I managed to get in an hour or so on the bike after work yesterday. Tomorrow I'm taking the day off to do some stuff in the morning, and hope to spend the afternoon out on the bike -- it's supposed to be dry and in the 40's. Since the state stopped using sand last year, sand isn't an issue while on numbered state roads. Most of the salt was washed away in the heavy rains last week. Town-maintained roads around here are still loaded with sand, but I'll just stay on the main roads.
Besides the fact that my Ultra has a batwing plus lowers, I have a 5" taller-than-stock windshield on there for now (I'll switch to my short 7" come May or June). I also picked up a really nice modular full face helmet used (cheap!) from a guy at work who sold his bike. The helmet is like new, it fits, and is just the thing for ridingwhen temps arebelow 50.
Popsv Not sure where you are in Hamden however get to route 17 north. Once you go thru Middletown and over the Portland bridge take right onto route 66. There are several places on 66, Eagles nest and several other can't remember the names now.
I don't know much about them because I stopped having a couple and getting back on the bike. There is always bikes stopped at several of the places.
There are great 2 lane roads in CT. Get a map that rivercityslim suggested some of the goodroads are highlighted. Maybe go to a couple of poker runs in the areawill introduce you to some of the good roads in the area?
