Hello,I was checking my fluids yesterday on my 18 SGS.The tranny dipstick was bone dry.Bike has 4750 miles on it.I know I read somewhere about migrating to the primary side.
I don't know how long I've been riding with a dry tranny. It's going in for 5000 mile service. But I am going to the dealer tomorrow because when I bought the bike and asked about this problem they said my bike was all set with that issue.Any helpful suggestions will be deeply appreciated.
Thanks
If your positive the transmission is completely empty, I'd leave it as is and have the dealership come to your home and pick it up. Of course explain to them why you won't ride it in....... that may get they're attention quicker.

Stopped at the Ocean State Harley this morning ,Talked to Jon the service mgr.He gave some tranny fluid to top it off ,It didn't take much to bring into the cross hairs. It's coming up on 5000 mile service soon he said they will check it out then. They are great folks at that dealership.
Search the forum. Go to the M8 forum... you'll find at least three different threads on the first page alone. There's a fix. Harley is installing it on new bikes and under warranty for other bikes.

The original issue did not drain the tranny but did lower the oil level to just under the dip stick where in most cases stopped the transfer. I never heard of anyone draining the tranny with the transfer issue. Harley assured us there was plenty of oil to prevent damage. I confirmed this a few times with my bike that once it got to a certain level the transfer did stop, but still just under the dipstick. My biggest beef was how do I know there was any oil at all if its not on the dip stick.
The vent was factory installed around the end of April 2019. I havent looked at a 20 or 21 model but I assume they still putting the vent in at the factory.
The trouble with these trans dipsticks on the late model SGs is you can be 3 oz low and its off the dipstick. You dont know how low till you refill and see how much it took. And the chrome finish on the dipsticks makes it dang hard to even see the level with clean fluid in a newer bike.
