I just bought a 2011 Street Glide with 43k miles. It’s a 103 that has been Stage 2 since it had 0 miles. It has a SE255 cam, Performance Machine air filter, Bassani headers and Rinehart mufflers, and an oil cooler too.
When I bought it, there was oil seeping out from the air filter enough that it was leave drops all over the front of the saddlebag when I was riding. The dipstick showed it was over-full of oil.
I drained and re-filled with 2.5qts of oil so the dipstick shows the oil level is below the “fill” mark. I also cleaned the air filter with Simple Green too.
Last night I went out riding for about an hour. I could still smell oil when decelerating and when sitting at idle. I removed the air filter again and there is a small amount of oil present again on the inside of the rubber surrounding the filter.
Short of having fried rings, what else could be causing oil to still be sucked up into the air filter like this?
Oil should be about 1/2 way between the add and full lines.
That’s roughly where the level is at. I’m tempted to drain a little more oil though to see if that’s the culprit (as long as I keep it above the “add” line).
that should have been closer to 3.5 qts of oil........BUT....
What they said......if ya know anything about cars its like the PCV system........
Crankcase pressure is routed to the intake ........oil mist is brought along for the ride and it collects in the intake/air cleaner........
That oil that gets in there tends to cake up on back of the valves and on top of the piston.
Venting to atmosphere there is NO vacuum and the crankcase pressure is vented out of the bike.......
I have the DK Custom set up on my 07......works great!!

Oil level in the middle of the stick when hot, replace breathers in the head, drill out oil return hole to .125, get or make a kit to vent to atmosphere...no more oil on your saddle bag. Ride...repeat...enjoy
Just vent it to the outside and forget it. The crap vented into the cleaner ends up on (coats) your valves and pistons. Typically after venting to the outside internals clean up around 1000 miles or so.
