I just put some absorbent cloth on tin foil and shape it to fit under the filter. I can get it past the mating surface so as not to make much mess. You have to be fast though!
^This^ But I just use some cardboard. Like a cereal box or 12 pack of mt. dew that I always have in the recycle bin and use it as a funnel right into my drain pan.
I loosen it first, then slip the cardboard up past the mating surface, then finish unscrewing the filter with one hand and directing the cardboard at a slight downward angle to the pan with the other.

Yep. I bought that stupid HD filter funnel, and it does not work worth a damn.
I used a Blue Moon Light Sky 6 pack box...it worked great
I have used the relocation kits on boats both gas and diesel worked fine. Like someone said no need to buy a DK lots of others cheaper. Its just an adaptor plate that goes at the filter with a hose to move some place else. You may need little more oil but not much. I trust the marine industry, after all you would want to be 100 miles out at sea with a problem.
To the OP. I use a relocation kit built by 3Guyz. Somewhat nicer finished product. I use it with a cleanable oil filter element. Slips inside a finned canister which threads on same as a regular oil filter would. I actually saw a lower running oil temperature after I added this relocation kit. Not a great amount lower but some. Maybe 8 - 10 degrees F. And no more mess over the front of the motor when oil and filter change time. Mine is on a Softail so it hangs out there on the left side down tube. There are alternatives. Moore Sensible solutions is one to look at as well.
I put this on about a year ago. Works great! Oil changes are a nice, CLEAN, and quick process. It may lower the oil temperature a little, but I bought it for the easy changes. I also bought the reusable filter. Kit looks good too! If you do get one, READ the directions about routing the lines. Don't ask me how I know.
Yep. I have the DK customs oil filter relocation kit. The black anodized finish on the adapter turned a purplish colour over time, so i striped it and polished it.
Oil temp runs a lil lower, and oil changes/filter washing are a no mess job now.

Wished they weren't so expensive CDN $ vs US$ and then shipping. I really want one on my Slim S. Anyone here north of the border able to find anything similar that compares to DK's/3GUYZ relocation setups? Also I can't justify paying close to a C note just for an oil filter adapter. If I can find one at a reasonable price I can put together a decent setup. It ain't rocket science.........
