Compression fittings on braided lines…… do they leak?
Hello all
im kinda suspicious of the hose fittings I got with the braided oil like kit for my sportster. The AN ones look great, but the compression fittings less so. These are the ones that go on the oil tank where there’s no threaded fitting. They look like this: I understand how they work in principle, but am a bit concerned re leakages!!!
Can anyone confirm they have them and have no issues?
We used similar in the chemical field, when properly assembled, they don't leak. If not properly assembled they leak. Ends need to be firmly seated before tightening, then tightened but not crushed. Leave the ApE strength out of this one. Fire the bike up, check for leaks, retighten if needed and ride. Keep an eye out for leakage or seepage and retighten as needed [or never] depending on how well you did.
Thanks for the reply guys.
so, a bit of locktite on the threads and not too tight?
are these a step up from rubber hoses and worm drive clamps? They look sharp but I nearly came off with a failed clamp that put oil on my back tyre so I’m keen on reliability 😁
Very important.... this is after assembly. Put a dot on any interface of the part that moves and the part that's fixed.
thanks for the reply
what exactly do you mean, at the rear of the hollow nut where the oil tank tube comes out of it?
is this serving as a locktite to prevent the nut backing off?
Yeah, pretty much. There are some things on the racebike that can't be safety wired. So, after things are buttoned up, you put a dot of glue on them. It prevents them from backing off from vibration.
