Default Question or affirmation of engine oil sump plug.

Hate to bother you folks with this since I'm pretty sure I know the answer.
Am I correct in the location of the sump plug in the enclosed drawing ?
I'm replacing the factory plug with a shorter Fueling plug to help prevent any oil spewing out of the breather.

Thanx fellers.

There are stories on the forum about busted oil pan from trying to remove plug #3. Proceed at your own risk.

That plug has nothing to do with the problem you are stating. It's most commonly caused by too much oil. Most advise never fill above the half way mark on the dip stick.

The shorter plug issue came from the race of the baggers in the M8 engines. I seriously doubt you'll be cornering at the speed and lean angle the race bikes are.

What are you installing the sump plug in? If it's an M8, the sump plug is on the front of the crankcase, not the pan.

Thanx for the info ! I'm all too familiar with the issues of engine oil overfill. Not firsthand, but from other riders.
And yes. You're correct I'm assuming that I'm not a peg scraper.LOL

Do go asking for trouble, leave the plug alone.

There's a long thread about this in M8 engines category. Read that 1st.

Feuling Company raised a stink about the factory plug being too long because MoCo didn't tap the pipe threads properly for some unknown years of M8 engine production. Fueling has a video about it - google it.

I wrote Feuling - they won't respond. Leads me to believe this is more a scam about maybe a few motors. Their stated concern is if the pipe threads were tapped too deep, the pipe plug sticks into the sump cavity and restricts oil flow from the scavenging oil pump back to the oil reservoir, contributing to wet sumping of the motor over time. Feuling is selling a shorter than spec pipe plug to eliminate the "chance" of your particular M8 motor being thread tapped too deep.

I have a 2021 MY M8. I was **** enough to remove the plug and measure the casting depth and the stock plug height to the cast surface. My particular M8's pipe plug is nearly exactly flush with inside surface casting - no oil flow restricting piece sticking up. I had already fallen for the Feuling crap and installed the short plug. As I learn more about these engines (my 1st Harley) I'm getting more savvy about what I read. If you have a newer M8 I wouldn't worry about it. At all.

Well.........I reckon y'all have convinced me,
if it ain't broke, don't fool with it.
Thanx fellers. The fueling plug was one of the first things I bought for the M8.
Was going to wait to replace it with the oil change.

This is a great site, with lots of helpful folks.
