hopefully this does not sound stupid but this is my first harley. i have an 06 fxstsi and i had it serviced about 300 miles ago but have not had much time to ride lately. i was going to ride this evening and checked the oil and it was extremely low, about a 1/4 inch of oil in bottom of tank cold on the kickstand. It has not leaked a drop, is there any way the oil could have leaked internally into the primary or something or should i assume the shop just left it low at service and add oil.. I would have thought i would have checked it right after service but it has been a couple months so i am not sure. the bike only has about 1300 miles on it. any opinions or suggestions would be great.
If the bike has sat for a while (Softails and XL's are notorious for this), and you know that the oil level was at or even close to being correct, AND there is no visible (read puddle) sign of leakage, fire it up..... with the dipstick removed.... You will see the oil come back into the tank...
What has happenned, more than likely, is the oil has seaped past the oil pump and loaded up the crank case....
Now, if after 30 seconds of idling, the Oil Pressure light does not extinguish or you do not see oil being pumped back into the bag, SHUT DOWN and look for a visible leak... If none noted, then it could be internal...
