Hello all!
I did a fluid change on my '06 Ultra and put Amsoil High Performance 20w50 in the crankcase.
I have a lot of it on hand as I use it in big block chevy's for my boat.
I would like to know how well it stacks up compaired to Amsoil Advanced motorcycle oil,
Mobil V-Twin & Silver cap 15w50?
I have noticed on HOT summer days I have had more engine noise with SYN3. with SE251 cams.
Thanks,
Dennis

There is a difference in the formulation of oils used in water cooled and air cooled engines. Temp ranges, RPM ranges etc. My suggestion would be to call AMSOIL Tech Support at (715) 399-8324 and ask that question to them. You will find them very helpful. Of course, the alternative is to listen to all the experts on this site. There are many that know far more than AMSOIL tech support. (smile) just kidding... My choice would be to call Tech Support.
Much better than any company's sales pitch, do an internet search for "used oil analyses." There's a guy named Bob that runs an oil-specific site that offers hundreds of used oil analyses from cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, etc., as well as virgin oil analyses for most brands of oil on the market. These analyses are conducted by third party oil analysis firms and are posted to the site by consumers, not oil companies, so it's a bit more neutral than company-sponsored lab tests.
Such information, combined with product data, allows you to think for yourself & make informed decisions in a way company sales pitches don't.
As for how well the 3 oils you mentioned would stack up to one another- having done my share of research, and speaking from 30 years experience as a mechanic, I'd bet a few months pay that none of the three would add one extra mile to the life of your engine over the other two...
I just encountered Amsoil 20w/50 Racing in auto supply store in Toronto area, the price is not so bad for Canada,$9.99 a quart, just wonder is this oil a good substitute for 20w/50 motorcycle? mat
I don't know about AMsoil Racing oil in particular BUT most Racing oils are NOT GOOD for extended term use. They are made without the additives that extend oil life and are specifically formulated for short term, high stress runs.
you run motorcycle oil in a bike . car oil in car.if there was not a differnce. i guess we would be useing cooking oil in all and not worrying.each oil as they put it is made differnt.and all at a differnt price. and when it comes down to it most of it is fairly good stuff.

I can't speak to the differences of the Amsoil products, but if you spend some time digging through this forum section, you will find that the differences between Mobil 1 20w-50 V-Twin oil and Mobil 1 15w-50 auto oil are pretty insignificant. For the most part, if you change your oil on schedule, any top brand synthetic oil that meets the MoCo specs. will be far better than any MoCo approved dino oils or Syn3.

I'll second that notion. If one is superior to any of the others in an overall comparison I haven't seen evidence of it.
