Default Oil Filter Wrench

Where can I find an oil filter wrench that fits the end of the filter. I have the banded oil filter wrench and I think its a PITA to use. Any other suggestions would be helpful also. Thanks

You should be able to get the proper size oil filter wrench at the dealer. It fits over the end of the filter and is untightened with a simple ratchet. It's very easy to use, unlike the band type.

You can get it at the dealer or the local auto store. Get the standard one that fits the filter and you can use a grinding wheel to relieve the opening for the crank shaft sensor like pictured. It will cost less than half this way than it does at the dealer.

I'm using a filter wrench I have in the tool box from when i had toyota pickups, think it's a KD tool, cam action type ,extension and a ratchet ,as it's turned to take filter off it tightens the two jaws and grabs the end of the filter.no clearance problems with crank sensor

I made one of these useing a piece of 1/2" pipe and an old strap. I drilled a hole in the end to stick a phillips screwdriver through for the handle instead of a ratchet. I use it on my F-350 Diesel and have used it at my friends Harley shop when all other filter wrenches failed. One sive fits ALL.

I use a good strap type (rubber not metal banding). I works fine around the crank position sensor and enables me to use an extension to keep the wrenches off my frame and controls. I've used this since I purchased my 03 heritage in 03. Harley charges a lot for theirs. But if you are creative buy a filter, go to autozone and buy the full cap unit, get out the dremmel and cut away the amount you see in most of the descriptions. I like the belt idea because if nothing else I have enough vehicles I can use it on without having to buy anymore wrenches. Good luck,
Woody

Take a look at the K&N filters...you need a socket to remove them, and they come in chrome also!

Good Luck!

I bought a wrench that fits on the end of the filter today at Pep Boys. It was $2.99.

I saw one like this at my dealer on the weekend was only $28.00.

Went to Wally and got one for $7, ground it out like the quote and money left over for beer.

Thanks
