Default Oil cooler and exhaust question

What does everbody think about putting on a oil cooler on a 06 1200R? Its completely stock and I ride in the Midwest so it gets kind of hot in the summer. The dealer says its a waste of money. I plan on using full synthetic oil in both the engine and Trans.

2nd are the 2006 SE slip ons (slash downs) just as throaty as the 2004 mufflers. I understand the new ones are 50 state legal now were the 04 model is just 49.

Thanks DL[:'(]

Default RE: Oil cooler and exhaust question

I was considering the same thing with a turbocharged '97 WG. So I went out on a really hot day (for CO). I kept the revs high, rode slow, lots of stop and go. Neighborhood, etc. In other words, I abused it under just about the worst conditions you can get for heat management. After about an hour I went home and checked the oil temp with a long metal kitchen thermometer that I bought in wally world for about $7. Temp was only 225*. Then I went out and rode up the freeway for 30 minutes, around 75-80mph. Oil temp was only 205*.

Why am I telling you this? The point is, you need to check your bike under your riding conditions to see what your oil temps are. Then decide if you need a cooler.

IMO, a cooler just isn't necessary for most folks with sporty's and evo's. When it's really hot - like 100*+ - you'll be riding fairly easy to protect the tires. That also takes it pretty easy on the oil and head temps. If you install it correctly (with a good thermostat) it won't be detrimental. But if you don't need it, it will save you money, time, weight, and clutter.

I hear the TC is whole differant story. We'll see about that.
