Changing oil for first time today. I took it out for a 45 minute ride pulled it in and went straight to the plug - loosend it and took it out, at this point engine oil came out but only for a second then it just seemed to drip occasionally till nothing else came out. I checked the oil level and it was at least 3/4 to the top. Anyone have any idea how to get the oil to flow out. I did hear the filter will carry 2 quarts but that still would leave at least a 1/4 of old oil in her? Any ideas would really help!!!
You pulled the plug out of the base of the motor didn't you???????
The Oil Drain plug is a 5/8" hex head with a 1/4" Allen in the center, and it is located in the frame boss at the rear right of the frame on a softail, left side facing forward in the oil pan below the transmission for Touring, and left side facing left on a dyna.....
A Service manual is a great investment to add to the tool box....
No the plug you described is exactly the one I pulled> Looking head on at the bike its the only plug on the left side and its a 5/8" and I took it out with a 1/4" allen that fit into center. The bike is sitting in garage with 3/4 full of oil plug out and oil stick out as well. Oil stopped dripping totally when I began the engine was plent warm. I have no clue, any suggestions?
wtf?? the filter holds about very little,,, did you remove the dipstick when you undid the drain plug? and are you sure you removed the right one, there are three the same down there..
Something is probably obstructing the drain hole. Get aslim long screwdriver and use for a probe and see if it comes out with oil on it or maybe it will start draining. I don't have anyother clue as to why the oil won't drain.
