Default what oil to use at 110 Outside Temp

98 Electra Gluide Classic, last year of the 80CID Evo motor.&nbsp\\; Recently was at a dealer in Palm Springs, I was asking about how much to do an oil change.&nbsp\\; I live in Hemet area and ride into the Desert daily.&nbsp\\; About a 53 mile one way trip into temps over 110 degrees.&nbsp\\; Now last oil change (First since I got the Bike) I had Hutchins do an oil change and use Harley Syn oil.&nbsp\\; Now the Palm Springs dealer looked at me funny and said that SYN oil can cause oil leaks.&nbsp\\; I told him that I ride in the desert every day and always thought SYN was the way to go.&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
Now everyone with an opion please chime in.&nbsp\\; I do not have an oil temp guage on this bike.&nbsp\\; The oil preusre drops almost to zero when riding for a while in the heat but only at idle.&nbsp\\; During the ride at freeway speeds it stays around 22 psi to 25 psi.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Also bike now has around 42,000 miles on it.&nbsp\\; What is best and is this normal oil presure for this bike and mileage.
&nbsp\\;
also any recommendations on any thing that I might or should do before it breaks
&nbsp\\;
Thanks to all
&nbsp\\;
David

I think its redline that makes a 20/60 wt syn oil. a cooler definetly would be on my list of things to add. as would be a new set of lifters. If you havent done it yet.I had a lifter wheel bearing go at 49k miles and really messed things up.I've ridden in 100 degrees and its not real enjoyable, 110 has got to cook ya.,,

Any 20w50 synthetic will do fine. The RL20w60 will work as well. If you are running syn3 and not leaking you won't leak with the Group IV oils like Mobil1Vtwin 20w50 or Amsoil MCV 20w50 or Royal Purple 20w50. The redline oils are groupV POE oils which could find a leak. You should get an oil cooler in those temps as well. Also, try some synthetic 75w90 gear oil in your trans versus the syn3. Syn3 for the primary is good as it has no moly.

Were it me, I'd be looking into fuel management also. With the PCII (only one I'm familiar with), you can tweak the mixture over any given range. By running a hair rich, you'll see some cooling. You can go back to original when it (ambient air temp) starts to cool down.

I would only use a true synthetic - a PAO base stock.&nbsp\\; AFAIK, there are only three:&nbsp\\; Royal Purple, Redline, and Amsoil.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
I use RP because it's easy to come by\\; my local Checker carries it.&nbsp\\;

Here where I live in the lower midwest temperatures above 100 degrees aren't that uncommon during the summer months.
&nbsp\\;
Only 96 today, but with the sun beating down, very little breeze, and high humidity it feels warmer than that..&nbsp\\;
&nbsp\\;
I've mentioned it before, that the majority of guys I know run regular $4.50 a quart&nbsp\\;Mobil 1 15W-50 year around, even in extreme temperatures, and quite a few of them have more than 100,000 miles on the original engines.
&nbsp\\;
I don't know of anyone that has had any engine problems that could be&nbsp\\;oil related, and as far as I'm concerned the type of oil you use in your bike is way overblown.
&nbsp\\;
Just run a good synthetic oil, change it along with the oil filter at reasonable intervals, keep your bike in a good state of tune, and you should be&nbsp\\;fine.
