I just changed over fluids in my 92 Flstc to a new HD Formula Plus for both the crank case and primary. The synthetic trans.fluid ,so they say ,is being phased out for this new type.It has rained and flooded all weekend,so I have not been able to test ride .Has anyone heard of this ?This is not a synthetic .It appears to be thicker than the other fluids .
Am I misunderstanding what you are saying here, that you put the Formula + in the ENGINE (crank case ) and PRIMARY?
It's used in the TRANS and PRIMARY, not the ENGINE.
This from HD site.
FORMULA+ Transmission and Primary Chaincase Lubricant-1 Quart - Developed with a proprietary mineral basestock formula, TESTED-CERTIFIED by Harley-DavidsonÂŽ Motor Company. Formulated for use in Harley-DavidsonÂŽ Transmissions (except VRSC models) and the following Primary Chaincase applications: '71-later XL, '83-'84 XR1000, and '84-later Big Twin models with wet type diaphragm spring clutch.
I tried it in the tranny, shifts better than revtech trannie oil ....less clunk.
Try the Redline Shockproof Heavy.....you will never go back. The real test is that initial shift into first gear when the bike is dead cold. Very little clunk from the Redline....all the other shifts are clicks not clunks.

I get the same results from HD Trans lube and M1 75W90. [8D]

Which H-d trans lube, the old one? Thanks. BTW - if you were to use a Mobil 1 lube in the primary, which one would it be?

I wish I could find the old stuff, I'm not real crazy about the Formula+.
the local HD shop doesn't even cary the 75w90 anymore. I may jst have to try the Redline stuff for the trip out to Billings in June. For now it is still cold enough here in Lwr.MI to run the + stuff.
I am going to make the switch to the Mobil 1 15w50 in the engine. . . .I ain't $pending $9 qt for the $yn3.......
