Is it better to check oil on jiffy stand or check oil with bike standing stright up?

On the side stand for the oil tank. Level for the transmission and primary.

I'll have to look at the factory manual again but, I thought it specified checking all the oil levels with the bike upright. Even the oil tank. If that's not the case, I've been checking my oil tank level incorrectly.

Good. I started out checking it on the jiffy stand. Then went to checking it upright which is a pain in the rear. Good to know I can go back to checking it on the jiffy stand. Thanks.

For my '04 Softail, both the Owner's Manual and Service Manual say upright and level for all checks. So each line for H-D must be different.

Thanks guys. I fell in love with the paint the first time I saw it. It's actually a Harley limited edition tank and fender set. I contacted Harley about having it redone due to some chips in the tank and front fender. But, according to Harley the company that did it (Colormania) is no longer in business. I've been trying to track them down to get the graphics but, nobody knows what happened to them.

I'll get some better pictures in my gallery this week.
